Back a year ago in Spanish(crap class btw), we had to work on a project where we required the school laptops. My teacher was aware that I was a programmer, and when I picked a laptop up, my teacher said "No, you can't use the school's laptop -- you're going to hack the school or something." Seriously -- just because I'm a programmer doesn't mean I'm a hacker.
My dad comes to me quite often: "Can you fix x's computer/printer/etc?" I explain to him every time that Programming ~= IT(even though I could probably use Google and find the answer), yet he is unable to comprehend that. Computers are computers to him -- if I program, I'm now the ultimate computer wizard that can fix anything by looking at it.
Today, I go to a C&G training and chat a script that is supposed to turn everyone's heads pink. Of course, nothing happens because I don't have admin. I was under the assumption that despite how dumb C&Gers are, an Officer in FEAR would at least know how admin works. I apparently was wrong -- a couple of privates said "OMG HE'S A HACKER!" and I was kicked because apparently the trainer didn't realize that A) I didn't have admin, and B) No one's head's changed colors. Two obvious clues missed the trainer by a long shot.
Why are people so ignorant/afraid of programming? Why are people unable to distinguish between Computer Science and IT? It's the equivalent of me going to a mechanic to get him to work on an airplane. Why are people so dumb in general? |

They could have thought you were a exploiter or whatever.. I agree with your other points, though.

| For an answer, lets look back at the Salem witch trials. Loljk, although it could relate as people can be afraid of/over exaggerate what they don't understand. |

| I know right. Kids at school say that I can hack stuff, when I don't even know how to raycast properly. Two guys even went so far as to ask me to hack for them. I hate it. |

The following scenario happens too.
Oh you can program? Then do x, y and z (*note* x, y and z are nothing to do with programming). Oh you can't do that? That's what I thought, idiot.

And also this:
"Oh, you're programmer, then tomorrow make a me 'x' thing." "Making that requi-" "Haha, I thought so, you can't make it."
That "x" thing requires a story, thousands of lines, a couple of designers and cooperation and teamwork. Such as a Assassin's Creed game... |

It's one of the trials of the trade, that is, to be misunderstood. Let us not criticise those who are not vested in the same field of study as ourselves, for they know not what it entails. I personally would not know the practical difference between a biochemist and a chemist and a biologist, or between a doctor and a surgeon, or other semantic differences. Likewise I think "Computer Scientist" can at least somewhat vaguely misleading.
The experiences you describe are very reminiscent of what I too encounter. Once I was even elected from the class to find a certain video on YouTube on the basis that I was a "tech-y guy"! On another occasion (and they always start their pleas with a "Oh, (name), you're good with computers!") I was asked "I've been getting low signal on my phone, do you know what that's about?", and "My wifi sign is up but I can't load anything" - I mean, SHEESH. Just because I'm alright at manipulating geometry and solving logic problems in a syntactic language!
Oh how they conflate hardware and software, oh how they assume knowledge is on parallel with intellect, oh how they summon us for such trivialities.
But oh well, that's what you get for hopping on board with one of the most recent fields of study! |

Maybe because they aren't programmers themselves?
I'm sure if I tried to talk to someone about music, sports, or something like that I'd sound like an idiot
But this is funny. If other people see me programming they would say "who r u hackeing"
AW MAN THIS ISN'T WHERE I PARKED MY CAR |

Most times for me it makes people ignore me even more.
In fact, nobody even tries to do anything to me because I annoy everyone too much. I make them think badly of me and so they stay away from me. |

If someone who could be a wanna-be exploiter joins your game and tried to run a script, even if it doesn't work, you would probably ban them in case they *do* get the exploit working and start ruining your game. You don't let them be because it didn't do anything. |

^ I'd say "sure thing, you can half-butt the rest of your tests." Then, when they get an F, "oh, you asked me to hack it. I hacked it to F". Then proceed to get beat up.

I sing things like 'Im Blue' (omg yes i know) and 'Scotch Egg' (go look it up by Weebl's stuff if you don't know what it is)
Everyone hates me for it. And then there's my creepy face.

I was done with a project, so I just went and started making a random map generator. Person next to me starts yelling, "Oh my god, are you hacking!?"
At that time I nearly facepalmed... |

| I often do my best to follow up on IT requests, even though I know next to nothing about it. At one point, I completely ruined someone's wi-fi setup whilst trying to change their network's pass from gibberish to something memorable. XD |

Lucky me, I know a bit of both programming and IT.
But i'm no hacker.
Level seven script execution bedazzles me. O.e
