I guarantee 90% of you guys reading this would like at least one song out of every popular genre. Also you guys comparing genres (Classic rock versus dubstep; are you serious?) confuse me. The difference between genres is the instrumentation, the lyric content and then more specific things like rhythm, chord progression or melody. I'm pretty sure all (at least most) of you would not judge a genre if someone gave you its definition rather than a stereotypical song out of that genre to listen to. so stop now |

genres are an easier way of grouping bands/artists by their style
there's nothing wrong with comparing genres
obviously there is some variation by band with most genres, but if they are too weird to be classified in that, that's probably not the genre they should be in in the first place |

Good country artists: Johnny Cash, I am not the best person to give you more Good death metal bands: Opeth, Death, Abominable Putridity, Dawn of Demise, Spawn of Possession, Cattle Decapitation, Winter, etc. |
