| Actually, the story in call of duty ghosts could be real to this day. The technology of orbital strike satellites is not very complex. All they do is fire a rod with no explosives, but the rods are pulled to Earth by gravity, and are traveling around MAC 10 (10X the speed of sound) by time they hit the surface of Earth. These are known as Kinetic energy missiles. They are tungsten rods (Tungsten is an extremely dense metal) about 6 feet tall. The only thing preventing the use of these satellites is a treaty signed in the 1960's outlawing the use of weapons of mass destruction in space. Then again, a treaty signed 54 years ago would not have that much influence. Also, the definition of a weapon of mass destruction is a chemical, biological, or nuclear weapon that can cause death on a massive scale. Basically, KEMs are not considered weapons of mass destruction. These satellites already exist, but are not in use. |
