Okay, well its no secret that the community here are a pretty judgemental bunch. Every time without fail I see someone insulting someone for spelling mistakes, the place they have made, the way their character looks.
I'm not saying its everyone, because its not, but there is an extremely unpleasant side to the community.
I'm curious, why? This is a game that encourages creativity and socialisation. Where does it all come from? I'm serious about this, I cannot understand why there is that much hostility here of all places. Other games have a much more mellow community from what I've experienced. |

| It comes from the vast majority of ROBLOX players being kids, who naturally do not know how to behave properly. |

| I don't do that. Well I don't criticize them for spelling stuff wrong, I just fix it. |

| Kids going butthurt and using recycled insults. That sums up the fighting games. |

I have a few reasons for this.
1. The community is immature 2. The community is young 3. The community (since it has no real person identification) thinks they can do whatever they want as it won't reflect their well-being.

You have to keep a couple things in mind, especially the fact that our community is primarily made of users who are from 8 to 14 years old. I don't actually think its as bad as you might think--especially in games. The forums are a different story, there are a lot of things that divide the community that we are trying to fix.
Now, you might think that you ought to just wait until we improve things, but players can do so much more than that. You're a part of the community, and the people in this community can decide to improve themselves. You just have to give it a shot :) |

Not really sure, however it is something that is seen everywhere. In school playgrounds around the world, when you get a group of people together, there is bound to be some conflict.
However, we do expect everybody here to be able to play nice, and play by the rules.

I understand the point you are making, I actually try to work on myself as a person as often as I can. And I accept that conflict is merely the nature of humans, not just children however with adults its a lot more serious.
Anyway the point I'm trying to make is, as an example world of warcraft has an extremely friendly community. I'm very new to it and everyone helps me along. I simply could not imagine that happening here.
Again maybe its because the community here is generally younger, I just feel that part of the problem may be that many new users are driven away. It leads to a community thats at each others throats. Theres nothing that can be done about it, its simply the way it is. It just makes me a little sad is all.
I will hold my hands up and say I'm not in touch with the in game community very well any more but what I do see is....ugh.
Anywho, hippy speech over. |

@Below "world of warcraft has an extremely friendly community" Unfortunately you will find that it is hit or miss depending on your server and faction. This is the case with many places online, not just WoW/Roblox.
Though, WoW makes things easier by having the ability to place people on ignore.
With that being said, the Roblox community in the actual servers is tame compared to what you see in the actual forums. Just keep in mind that their rude words mean nothing and always report them for bullying/harassment and try to promote positive behavior. |

| Oh don't get me wrong, I've learnt to simply ignore it a long time ago. It just doesn't give new players the best impression. I know when I play a game I head to the forums pretty quickly. |

Thanks for the great points and feedback.
What do you think would make people more aware of the rules, as well as more welcoming? Is there a change we could make, or would the change have to originate within the community? |

To change a community, your asking for a large tip from a simple minded forumer like myself haha.
Maybe its just the way it is. I think a change is possible but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Changing the nature of an entire community, especially one as large as this, is beyond my scope.
In terms of making people more aware of rules, maybe a notification here and there, a separate tab that clearly states them. Again I won't pretend I know how to manage a community however I trust in whatever you guys do, even if some of us don't see the immediate benefits. |

@Gordon Add a forum where people can learn the rules and the name will be "Rule Help"
Basically people will post to find out if that post or what they said may be against the rules, or someone doing a certain action if it's against the rules. |

I'm flabbergasted there's someone who shares the same opinion as me on this forum. I up vote this.

Life changed since 1990. Even though I didn't ... well I wasn't born then, but from reports, well I've noticed that people were less rude than now. Really, it's not a matter of age, it's just the maturity. Look : I'm 12. I have good grammar, I am not rude (but I'm used to say get out, so don't judge me on that XD), I don't make spelling mistakes, and I am quite helpful really. You just have to get used to it. Also, to remind you, it's not only ROBLOX, it's real life as well. People are so rude these days. Which they weren't. Society would be so much better ...
but it's that way, deal with it kid. |

Friendly, I must agree that is a great idea, however it has a few issues 1. It could get in the way of a creator's GUI's 2. Not many people have the willingness to read it 3. Some of the ToS isn't followed by games, so it wouldn't be wise to make the community think ROBLOX isn't doing its job, it is. |

In the hopes that this gets read...
What do you think would make people more aware of the rules, as well as more welcoming?" I'd definitely set up harsher punishments for accounts that are just flat out harassing someone. I've seen some bad stuff over the last few years, and I can just watch the same account harass users and come back later because they got a slap on the wrist due to the current system. The system works fine for normal users, but people just out there to get into trouble don't seem to get phased out.
"Is there a change we could make, or would the change have to originate within the community?" I have an idea that could work. A MVP program to display users recognized by the admins/mods for their good work/behavior on the forum and to promote the positive behavior. Blizzard uses it for their forum and it seems to work good. Users recognized as a MVP get a unique font color, green, and a title under their name to signify their status. They also used to get a unique avatar, though that was phased out when Blizzard overhauled their site during the WoW Cataclysm expansion. MVP users are usually looked up to and serve as the forum role models, something I think could help out here.
