You cope with it by not caring about anything. Trust me this works, except you'll get horrible grades and might get kicked out of college. Be happy man

@Tronnie
I suffered from chronic depression for roughly eight years of my life. It sucks. I'll give you what advice I can so that you may not suffer as long as I did.
Find something that you love doing, an escape (no drugs). Something that allows you to forget about your earthly worries and frees your mind and body. Be safe, however, reckless activities will only end in the detriment of yourself. For me, my escape was exploring the mountain range near my home. Once you find your bliss, do it. It will help bring happiness back into playing an active part in your life.
Your troubles may still persist in your everyday life, however. That activity that you love doing can only keep you for so long and sometimes you will have to return to reality. That's alright. Reality can and is filled with some miraculous things that you don't want to miss. Reality is also filled with some really crappy stuff to--as I suspect you know. People can be amazing and compassionate or they can be cruel and apathetic.
Take the bad with the good, and the good with the bad. Goodness can not exist without the evils. The sadness that you feel is an emotion, a wonderful emotion. If you didn't feel sadness then your happiness would be meaningless. It is human of you, and being human, being alive is perhaps the greatest gift you have been given.
Meditate. Taking time to sit and reflect in silence will calm you down considerably. Mediation will slowly grant you better control over your emotions and change your perspective to a wider outlook. Write. Write in a journal at the end of each day. It solidifies your thoughts so that you don't feel as unheard.
Message me if you need anything else. I hope that helps. |

@Your,
It's a serious answer for the creator of this thread. The topic is serious and warrants a serious answer. Do you have a problem with this? |

@Miriam, I didn't get agitated in the slightest. That being said, posting "tl;dr" serves no purpose other than to alert the writer that what they posted was too long for the reader. What I posted contained information relevant and was not directed at Your.
@iBarely, Sadness is awful. It is one of my greatest fears to return to depression. What I was trying to say, and perhaps I didn't clarify enough, was that sadness is necessary for happiness to exist. Because you can feel sadness that means you have felt happiness to the same degree. Life isn't bland, and because there is a down there means that there must be an up.
As for reality: Sometimes, sure. I've gone through some awful stuff, but I've also gotten to experience some awesome things. Depression, once conquered, offers a new and greater form of appreciation for life under the condition that you choose to live life. |

| @Scoot, There are some pretty productive things that can happen inside in front of a computer screen. Typing up a paper for school, for example. Going outside can be a good suggestion, so can doing productive work (feeling like you accomplished something is very gratifying after all), however saying that you need to go outside to do something productive is simply untrue. |

| As someone who is usually slightly clueless to the reasoning of others on the internet, would you explain why? I understand that I may take things seriously, but my motivations are really only to help. I framed my "tl;dr" statement better elsewhere. I know that that one sort of just dragged on and didn't express my intent very well. |
