Note: I get asked a lot about building tips, especially since getting into EBR. I figured I'd write them down for everybody! If you want to be a good builder, you need to be willing to read through all of this. Theres a lot of helpful things in here. Thanks!
If I mention one of these places in the post, here is a link to them so you know what I'm talking about RoadRunner Canyon: http://www.roblox.com/RoadRunner-Canyon-1-4-2-place?id=19138354 The Wind: http://www.roblox.com/EBR-The-Wind-1-3-1-place?id=19138404 One of many coasters I've made: http://www.roblox.com/Serpents-Revenge-Coaster-place?id=19138355
Hi there, I'm asimo3089. You may know me from a number of places here on Roblox. I've been here since 2008 (This account, 2009) and I've been a huge builder since the day I joined. Today, I'm known for my roller-coasters and showcases; My place "The Wind" is even used as a benchmark for the Roblox Staff whenever they update the graphics on Roblox. Because of this, I'm asked all the time for "Building tips" or "inspiration/motivation tips".
-The first thing I start with is inspiration. You need something to inspire you! Make the object that inspires you is very "broad", or simple. Anything specific will fail you most of the time. If you have a simple idea for inspiration, more things around you will inspire you continually while you work on your build. For example, on The Wind, I chose winter for inspiration. Sounds way too simple but if I chose "Snow" or "Snowflakes" for inspiration, I'd get bored really quick of those two things.
-One thing I get asked about a lot is "Should I plan my place out". It really depends on the place, but I personally, do not plan my place out. You tend to be more creative if you do it as you go. Your brain will spontaneously come up with ideas as you go if you're very creative!
*Tip: Make it fun for yourself! Don't make building a hassle. I like to get myself a fun playlist on iTunes and maybe a bowl of chips or some other snack and have some fun!
-Another thing people say a lot is that they lose all of their motivation when theyre halfway through their build. There can be 2 reasons for this. One reason could be the fact that their idea for a place is TOO BIG! Only build a place you know you can do alone. I've seen so many projects never reach completion because of the scale of it. The second reason could be that your inspiration wasn't simple enough! Go find something that inspires you!
-Okay, you've built your place, how do I get recognized? I suggest joining a social network that Roblox is on, and stay in touch with the Roblox Staff. Show them images of project updates. If it looks good and promising, they'll ask you about it. This is the best piece of advice I've got to get recognized by the staff, and soon other members.
Some people ask what tool(s) I use. I use one tool and that's CmdUtl by Anaminus. I suggest googling that and downloading it. It's an incredible plugin that makes building very easy. It's easy to learn if you're willing to play around with the buttons on it for a bit.
How much time should you spend on the place? This also depends on the place. If you're aiming for detail, you want to spend upwards of a few months. It takes a lot of work. Don't let that timeframe de-motivate you. Just do it as you go, you could finish it even sooner. Time flies by faster than you think! For time examples, RoadRunner Canyon took me about 3 months, and The Wind took me about a month and a half. Roller-coasters take me anywhere from a month to 3 months.
I can't think of any other questions I've had but I'l reply to any questions you post below that I may of missed. I suggest reading the posts here incase something has already been answered!
Thanks -Asimo3089 |

| I have a question on the building tips. (This goes out to all the NBC users.) What if you only have one place slot that can be active but so many ideas and projects you want to do. Any suggestions on what you should do? |

| Thanks. When I was at Behind the Blox. I think the CEO really liked my house I made at the tests. This also helps me SO MUCH I keep making detailed ideas and now I know to make it fun. I have my inspiration and I am about to begin soon. |

"I like to get myself a fun playlist on iTunes"
Same. I can't build without music. It's just terrible for me.
Good tips, though. Thanks! |

Please could some people check out my EBR entry and give me a heads up on it so far? I have worked on it for a month now. Just to give you an idea of what it is "A treasure hunt in a murky swamp". So collect the papers!
Hope you like it!

@Super, Another way of doing it is making a place, deactiviting it and making another place. I do this all of the time and even as I upgraded to TBC I couldn't fill all of my games onto it at once.
@Asimo, this is really great! I use the Anamius plugin, too! |

Thanks guys
Good question weegee! I own a Mac which means it gets a bit expensive to find nice video software. I currently use "iShowU HD", which I bought when it was on sale. It's a very decent screen recorder and it's what I prefer. For editing, I just use "iMovie" which comes with all Macs. It's plenty powerful enough for Roblox related things, but you need a general idea on how to use it. I self-taught myself! |
