A lot of Chromebooks like the one I'm using have an ARM processor. They don't have the same processor as Windows so things like Wine won't work.
I had an idea tho. My idea was to get a light-weight Debian distribution and emulate it inside of qemu. I would then install Wine inside of the x86 emulation then connect the terminal in the emulation with the terminal on my PC by creating an SSH server. I would then be able to connect and run Windows software via the terminal.
I'm going to try this now but I need to download a lot of big stuff.
If this works, it'd be pretty useful. |

That would kind of defeat the purpose of buying a Chromebook at all.

"That would kind of defeat the purpose of buying a Chromebook at all."
Howso? When I bought my Chromebook, it didn't have a lot of software I wanted (like NodeJS, PhantomJS, TiLP, etc) so I ported all the programs to Chrome OS myself.
Being able to run more software doesn't defeat the purpose. It's still Chrome OS. It still boots fast, has a nice development environment for programs, has 3G, all that jazz. |

If you decide to buy a Chromebook, it means you're acknowledging that all you're ever going to run on it is a browser. That's what it was created for. If you want to run external software, you should use a different laptop.

Are you retarded? Who the hell would buy a PC that is only a browser and can't run other software? In fact, what retard would MAKE a computer that can't run other software?
Seriously? How could you even come to that conclusion?
Chromebooks have been able to run programs that aren't the browser from day 1. As of late 2011 you could run C++ programs. Used to, the development SDK was all around JavaScript. Now it includes C++ for greater speed.
I have tons of programs installed on my Chromebook that aren't the browser. Such as Text (like Notepad++) and JSTorrent (like uTorrent), |

The fact that you CAN doesn't justify the question of why you would WANT to. The Chromebook is a cheap to produce and cheap to purchase laptop intended for college students and any person who only needs an internet browser. That is why the OS is literally an internet browser connecting to the processor. It's fast, it's lightweight, and it's easy to use--perfect for work and study.

Based on this logic, you shouldn't run any software on Windows 8 besides Internet Explorer because Windows 8 is designed to be light-weight and even run on tablets.

lol you clearly don't even know what that logical fallacy means. xD You can't just throw logical fallacies around to pretend you're intelligent when they don't even come close to applying to the situation.

It does very much apply to the situation. Since you're clearly to dimwitted to analyze it for yourself, I'll do it for you.
>Chromebooks are lightweight. >Their OS is solely an internet browser. >It's meant to be used as an Internet browser.
->
>Tablets are lightweight. >Windows 8 runs on tablets. >It's meant to be used as an Internet browser.
That's essentially how your logic just flowed, which is a false cause fallacy.

">Chromebooks are lightweight." True.
">Their OS is solely an internet browser." Complete and utter lie.
">It's meant to be used as an Internet browser." Incoherent and misleading statement.
"That's essentially how your logic just flowed, which is a false cause fallacy."
The premises you're using are complete and utter dishonesty in which have been corrected many times. Either you're willfully ignorant or just too stupid to understand things that I have restated time and time again. |

First let me tell you how well your character is represented by your willingness to start an argument over whether or not there's a point in running non-browser software on a Chromebook.
In fact, that representation is so strong that it stands more firmly than any of the bullcrap things you've said in the process of making yourself stand out as a complete and utter moron.
If you own a laptop and don't know what it's meant for, then you've said enough without saying a word.
Thanks for wasting my time.

lol I started it? okay.
"In fact, that representation is so strong that it stands more firmly than any of the bullcrap things you've said in the process of making yourself stand out as a complete and utter moron."
Because you're saying that a device that is specifically designed to run non-browser software in a JavaScript/C++ environment is designed for that.
One of the entire huge selling points for developers you're acting as if it's completely unimportant and doesn't exist!
That's like completely disregarding the existence of the .NET client on Windows.
Why are you so willfully ignorant? Why do you not listen to education? Why can't you get it through your thick-headed skull and understand?
The reason there's a giant-freaking app-drawer button on the bottom of my Chromebook is for apps. Do you think that button exists because Google thought it looked good and that it doesn't really do anything? No. Of course not. It's there for, I don't, running apps?
How's that so hard to understand? That app drawer exists for running apps. It's not there for running web browsers. It's there for running apps. Apps you can install online. These apps can be built in C++ or JavaScript, or have the two mixed.
C'mon, it's not that difficult to understand.
Let me use another example: Do you have an Android device? If you do, there's an app button on it, correct? That opens up your app menu? Do you think that menu is absolutely worthless and you ignore its existence and just install Chrome on your tablet instead?
No. Of course not. You connect to the Google Play Store and install apps that go into your app drawer. Same with Chromebooks.
I know you'll probably ignore this because you're mentally ill or something and keep on restating that Chromebooks aren't meant to run apps and you can do that. But if you're really going to continue to be that stupid then there's no other point in trying to educate you. |

They are WEB apps. Thanks for supporting everything I've said up to this point. The Chromebook was designed to support applications that reside on the Internet, not on the actual device--in other words, cloud computing. It's a THIN CLIENT. The only software application that is meant to be on a Chromebook that isn't stored on the Internet is the browser. Anything else is simply defeating the original purpose.

The fact that you said a statement that ignorantly stupid makes me not want to even read the read of your post.
Here, educate yourself, then come back to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_application http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_application
If you honestly think that these are the same, then I'm not even going to bother with you anymore.

Another blatant lie. I was just playing a native game written in C++ that I got off the Chrome Web Store. It was ported from the Android version and it runs just fine.
Has nothing at all to do with web apps.

Are you freaking illiterate? The fact that they're not the same is a segment of the foundation for the blatantly obvious truth I've been telling you this entire time.
God, illiteracy and idiocy are not a healthy combination. Well, my condolences to you. And thanks again for wasting my time.
