First let's think about childhood. You'd be born in a terrible, publicly run hospital that the state controls. Doctors have no motivation because they are paid the same as janitors. You are delivered carelessly. Your parents are allowed 1 hour to love their baby before you are taken away by the state to be placed in state-run daycare. But hey, it's free! Well, if you don't count the oppressive tax rate that funds it, at least.
Anyway, at the daycare you are fed propaganda about the Dear leader and the Party, and taught to turn in anyone suspected of disloyalty. You are allowed one toy but it must be party-approved. The toy is shoddily built because it was made in a state run factory, and you have next to no choice of what toy you get. The toy gets taken away by the government after a few months to give to a black kid who is deemed needier than you.
You go to publicly funded state run school beginning at 8. Class size is huge, about 40 kids per teacher, and the teachers are lifeless and dull; they have no incentive to be creative and friendly because the party-controlled Teachers Union has given them all tenure on the condition that they remain loyal to the party. The only time teachers will get energetic is when they discuss the evils of creativity and greed. Ayn Rand will be banned from the library, along with any other subversive material. The only books are about how great socialism is, or how bad capitalism is. You are taught songs about the Dear Leader and you must memorize them in order to pass. Math is about how to spread wealth, history is about how great the party is, etc.
You will be assigned to a home when you are 16. You will live with a Party agent at all times and cannot leave the house without the Party agent following you. You will be given a ration card to get food and clothes. The line to get items is incredibly long (you wait hours out in the cold), you have no choice of what you get, and the quality is poor. party members get to cut in line, but you are not a party member. At school, they taught you that you were too stupid to serve the party efficiently. You are a mindless cog of the glorious state.
The house you live in is dull, colorless, and dilapidated. You have no running water, only one pair of shoes, pants, shirt and jacket. Electricity is required to be turned off every 2 hours to save the environment. You have no internet, no video games, no furniture other than a chair, a table, and a bed. All badly built I might add.
You are assigned to a job at 20 as a factory worker in a shoe factory. You have no choice in the matter. Conditions in the factory are horrid, and you are not allowed to form a union or strike. You have cultural diversity training every day where multiculturalism is drilled into your head.
You continue this routine until 30, when you are assigned a spouse. Your spouse moves in with you and her previous house is given to a minority.
You are watched every day by agents and telescreens. Propaganda is constantly around you, and the Communist News Network is the only source of information. It is all controlled by the Party. The media constantly tells you how this is the best life you could have.
At 50, you are granted retirement, and you and your spouse are sent to the House of the Useless, a state funded retirement center. You spend the rest of your 4 years of life there. Life expectancy is much shorter due to inadequate health care. You die alone and are dumped into a meatgrinder to be recycled as environmentally friendly food. |

| I assume that in the scenario we know the propaganda is propaganda, because if not, I'd probably be one of the countless, mindless sheep (That's a metaphor) in the community... |

This part of the scenario has nothing to do with socialism. |

This part has nothing to do with socialism either. |

Once again, this has nothing to do with socialism. |

Actually, plenty of modern day socialist countries have these. |

"What is Socialism"
It is an economic system. It has nothing to do with censorship as OP is trying to imply. |

This is inaccurate, and very close minded. Children are not taken away and given to families in socialist countries. You are just being politically ignorant. |

I'll have you know this is based off of what actual socialist countries experienced.
In the USSR, especially during the Stalinist era, children were indoctrinated with youth organizations such as the Pioneers and Komsomol. They were exposed to propaganda glorifying communism and the State from an early age, and were encouraged to turn in their parents to the authorities if they caught them being disloyal to the State.
Goods were scarce in nearly every socialist society except, possibly, yugoslavia. Factories were inefficient because of the lack of incentive for workers and managers, and goods were of poor quality. People waited for hours, especially in the 80s when socialism was collapsing, for basic goods like bread. There was hardly anything on the shelves. If one day, the stores had coffee, it would be like heavan to those people and they would line up so they could get their rations.
In socialist societies, you get free housing, a guaranteed job, and health care. However, the thing is that these things are all state-run and are provided by the government. The government will tell you where you can live and work, and you need licenses to do just about anything. That's the essence of the centrally planned economy. People waited 10 years for a bloody car, and it was a badly built car at that. Ever heard of the Yugo? Trabant? Not luxurious cars.
Socialist countries had strict censorship and were single-party states. This is an undisputed fact. Despite democratic sounding names like the German Democratic Republic or the People's Democratic Republic of Korea (east germany and north korea,) these states were/are totalitarian. There was no freedom of assembly, speech, religion, press, etc, and the secret police were constantly monitoring you. Ever heard of the Stasi? The KGB? Securitate? All very powerful agencies that could snatch you up in the night and take you to a torture camp where you'd never see daylight again.
So please, don't mock the victims of socialist tyranny by claiming that "true" socialism is supposedly democratic, or equal and free. The only virtue of socialism is its equal sharing of misery, the only freedom is the freedom to obey the Party. |

Actually, this is based off what selective socialist countries have experienced.
"So please, don't mock the victims of socialist tyranny by claiming that "true" socialism is supposedly democratic, or equal and free. "
7/10 for strawman argument
"the only freedom is the freedom to obey the Party."
So, you're arguing that because of historical socialist states (selective, socialist states I might add), that practically becoming slaves of the party is inevitable in socialism? |

"That's clearly not a valid form of logic.
I mean, the fire isn't going to hurt if we put our hand in it, unless it is mathematically proven that the heat emitted in the combustion of propane will in fact be harmful to your body. "
Where did I say that "socialism isn't proven that it is bad, so therefore it doesn't hurt anybody"? This is clearly not the argument that was mentioned.

I don't get why it is so bad though Everyone having equal money sounds so passive to me. I know McDonalds vs. Doctor, but really the main incentive is that you enjoy the job you chose |
