When someone sneezes a believer in god would say " God bless you "
So when someone sneezes what does an atheist say?

I'm not atheist or religous. I guess you could say I made up my own beliefs. I just say "bless you".

"Bless you" doesn't really mean "I BESTOW A BLESSING OF GOD UPON YOU" anymore, unless you're in church, so it shouldn't be looked at badly, but looked at more as a salutations. To think otherwise would just be silly.

"Bless you" is short for "God bless you" because in the old days, people thought that your heart stopped whenever you sneezed, so they thought you could die from a sneeze and needed God's help to get through it.

No one says 'God Bless You' anymore, only 'Bless You' and that is not the shortcut all the time.

I either act like an extremist christian and go on about how god blesses you (around my friends) but in other situations I say nothing.

In my language, we say: "Egészségedre!" It means: "To your health!" It is also used in place of: "Cheers!"

"common courtesy"
Yeah, because wishing for a fake magical sky fairy to make someone better just because of a sneeze, is totally nice and not just a social norm.
What's wrong with using "gesundheit" though? |

I'm not offended by it. I just don't want to use it because of its religious connotations.

"There's no point in fighting. His atheist logic is so flawed it cannot be fixed."
Says you. You don't have enough logic to explain why "gesundheit" is wrong. |

Not many people in good ole Murica know what gesundheit is since it's German. Besides, I don't see the point in secularizing literally everything.
