First off, we did a poor job in it, I'll admit that, but you have to look at the FACTs: Vietnamese and Koreans used Guerrilla Tactics, while the US was completely trained and oriented in fighting conventional wars. The rise of Special Forces (counter Guerrilla Warfare Units) began during the Korean War, created by the US. It was then of course still in it's infancy, and during Vietnam wasn't fully utilized properly. It wasn't until General Petraeus (US Army) created the first EVER guide in history for combating Guerrilla Warriors for the OIF/OEF.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY You could even ignore the first point for this! Korea wasn't our war, we fought in SUPPORT of South Korea just like China Fought in SUPPORT of North Korea. In fact we completely demolished the Chinese military. Vietnam was France's war to keep Vietnam as a colony. When France couldn't deal with Vietnam due to having to fight in Africa, we agreed to take their place. It didn't make the war ours, it just made us a key ally. |

we wouldn't have gained or lost anything if we won/lost this war.
