What is "City of Sundown" About?
City of Sundown is a roleplay group that borrows most of its elements from the movie "I Am Legend" as well as a few zombie flicks such as "The Walking Dead." It is about two gangs of cats struggling to survive in a small set of abandoned, rundown cities that are also inhabited by creatures known as "The Infected."
Are there any other living things besides cats and prey?
Unfortunately, no. No dogs or any other pets/animals had survived the outbreak.
What Are The Infected?
The "Infection" is a terrible disease that may or may not have evolved from viruses such as rabies. It is aggressive and destructive, and causes its victims to not only forget everything about who they are, but drives them into a permanent state of insanity and insatiable hunger. Most of the Infected you might see on the streets will mostly consist of cats, but you may see other small mammals carrying the disease as well. The Infected can be recognized by their terrible, glowing white eyes which are extremely sensitive to light. They only hide away in the darkest of places, and come out during the night to hunt for the 'living.' They are savage by nature and have an endless crave to kill.
A few things to clarify; the Infected are not 'undead.' Rather they have been hopelessly altered by the virus that plagues them. The Infected have no recollection or memory of their life before they were turned. They are generally very stupid, although extremely unpredictable and dangerous.
Are cats the only animals who can contract the virus?
No; prey animals are suspect to the virus as well. Cats have even become Infected after getting bitten by infected rats, so when hunting at night make sure to study your prey's behavior carefully!
What Happens If A Cat Becomes Infected?
There is no cure for a cat who has been Infected; to see what happens to bitten cats and the turning process, please look at our diagram here: http://city-of-sundown.deviantart.com/art/The-Stages-of-Infection-270384755
What Is The Setting Of The Roleplay?
The plotline of this roleplay takes place several decades into the future, a full 20 or so years after humans first abandoned the cities in an emergency evacuation. All things were left behind, including pets. The cats in the roleplay are descendants of abandoned pets and strays.
As for environment, the cities our characters live in are located in a desert in the southern U.S., likely somewhere around the Oklahoma/Texas/Arkansas area.
If We Live In A Desert, Where Do The Cats Find Water?
This desert, thankfully, isn't quite as dry and arid as the average desert. Water can be found in various parts of the cities, but water supply often fluctuates based on the current temperatures and weather. Where water can be found will be indicated by staff on the group map, which will be updated constantly to show where necessary supplies can be found at the time.
Does This Work Like Warriors/Are The Gangs Rivals?
While the gangs may sometimes quarrel over food and water supply, no; they do not consider each other outright "rivals". Arguments and disagreements between gangs are bound to happen, but it is very rare that they go out of their way to fight each other. In fact, from the very beginning the gangs willingly learned from and taught one another necessary survival skills, which is why both groups are so successful today.
If the gangs aren't rivals, then why don't they just unite as one gang?
The gangs live separately due to their differing opinions and survival strategies. Cahaya has the black side of the yin-yang symbol for a reason; they train their cats to explore, hunt, and fight even in the dark of night when the Infected are about. Suran's founders saw this lifestyle as too reckless, and to this day the cats of Suran rely on the safety of daylight; therefore, their training strategies are far different from Cahaya's.
Why Can't My Cat Have Any White?
There's a reason why albino/white-furred animals are so rare in the wild; animals with such coloring are all too easily spotted by predators and make easy targets. The Infected's predatory senses are enhanced, and as such, they can spot cats with white fur very easily. Cats with such coloring fell victim to the Infected almost from the very beginning of this plague, wherever it came from. It was cats with darker pelts and markings that lived on to breed and have offspring, hence the appearance of cats in the roleplay's current timeframe.
Besides this, prey can spot white-furred cats sooner than they can cats of darker coloring, and in a dry desert zone that almost never gets any snow, there is absolutely NO benefit from having white fur.
Why can't my cat wear super long capes or really long scarves?
It's for the sake of logic. When cats live in such a dangerous place, they wouldn't go out of their way to be wearing things that can get snagged in places when they're running for their lives. Besides this, it's for the sake of realism. If cats hated it when people dressed them up in halloween costumes, there's no reason why cats would be wanting to dress up in heavy outfits for the sake of fashion. Bandannas, collars, and short scarves that are wrapped neatly around the neck are acceptable.
I noticed that some of the cats have that yin-yang symbol somewhere on their accessories! Can I do that too?
Sorry, but no. Only leaders and deputies wear the yin-yang symbol to indicate their authority, and even then, deputies can only wear the half of the symbol that corresponds to their gang. Leaders are the only cats in a gang who are allowed to wear the full symbol.
