This was a laptop I used when I was younger and dumber and I downloaded so much junk and probably malware. How can I quickly and safely delete all of the contents of this drive, except maybe the OS(win 7), but the OS doesn't matter much. I'm planning on using it as an external hard drive or a backup one.

Is it possible for the (probable) malware on it to get onto my computer before i format it?

Are viruses "smart" enough to go onto my computer from the hard drive?

Should I go into safe mode to format it?

"Should I go into safe mode to format it?"
After you save your stuff, yes you go to Safe Mode and format it. |
