|| [1] Introduction
Fellow Venezians and the High Command,

I am Estceque, a programmer for the Armacham Technology Corporation; perhaps you may know me as Unclear. I currently possess the rank of Major. Recently, I have worked diligently to create many open-source scripts for training places to improve training quality; however, it is my goal to go beyond that and reform training as a whole.

However, my current title limits my pursuit of this goal; I realize that this is audacious, but ultimately, I request your support to bestow upon me the title of Director of Training to execute my plans.

I am not without experience; I have already fulfilled positions similar to this one in other groups, notably WIJ and the Roblox Assault Team. Over six months of 2011, I mentored trainers in WIJ and created a training protocol for all trainers that has since become tradition. In addition, I led and managed the WIJ Shock Trooper Academy as Head Instructor; I created entrance and advancement protocol, as well as the foundation of the harsh training program trainees would have to pass in order to graduate as Shock Troopers. More recently, during the summer of 2013, I served as the provisional Head of Progression in the Roblox Assault Team and brought life to the dying department; I experimented by implementing a successful reform that changed training for the better.

However, what makes me indispensable compared to other candidates is not my experience in field work, but rather my experience with the technicalities of training. The reality is, training quality is as heavily influenced by the technology of the location as it is by the training system.

This fact is not new to many of you; many others have brought it up before. But unlike the others who will rely on teams of developers to fulfill their orders while they lazily take all of the credit, I can positively change our training technology myself.

Should I require such a team to accomplish any tasks, I know how to work with developers because I am a developer. I know how to build; I currently serve as a Moderator for the prestigious group Elite Builders of Robloxia and all three of my building showcase places have been featured on the official ROBLOX blog. I know how to script; I served as a site Moderator for the LuaLearners site and am an ex-member of the prestigious group Master Scripter. I have also recently received a blog post interview for my recent experimental project, Crystal Raider.

With all of this being said, I have met a gamut of other developers and have frequently worked with them to achieve great things because I am experienced with the tasks they are given. I can work alongside them because I understand the complications, limitations, and possibilities of development work. I am a devout believer of the ideal of being able to pull your own weight, therefore I question the validity of bestowing the title of Director of Training on someone who may be able to invent innovative training ideas, but lacks the technical background to execute those plans and put them into fruition without demanding the cooperation of a developer and is thus only half qualified; the ability to write training protocol is only half of the job, and the ability to manage the development of technology used during training is the other half.

For your convenience, I have enumerated below a number of problems I have encountered during my time here and have also included what I perceive to be the ideal solution. As Director of Training, I will work towards successfully executing each of the solutions provided, as well as negotiate with those who may have other plans. Although this is a daunting task, I am ready to bear its cumbersome weight upon my shoulders.

Although this document may prove to be rather lengthy, I beg of you to bear with it until its conclusion.

|| [2] The problem
At the moment, we face a dire issue that lies close to the heart of our infrastructure. I speak of our very own training system, which remains archaic and outdated compared to its peers. Despite being one of the essential constituents to our group as a whole, the training system still lacks the order and direction that it desperately requires.

For the most part, we have been following the example set forth by our rivals and allies; the clan world as a whole has been diligently following a chaotic procedure to deal with the issue of training. The reality is, the unwillingness to adopt a more stringent policy toward training is a willingness to deny uncultured potential from bearing fruit.

Bear in mind I speak not of the potential skill in our members, but the potential that Venezia holds as a possible leader in a new era of training. To deny such a possibility is to knowingly attempt at halting group improvement as a whole.

At our core, we are made up of our members. It is the responsibility of the high ranking officials to understand that they are merely leaders and nothing more. Although it is true that without high ranking officials we are reduced to a mob, it is also true that without members we are merely a small collection of brilliant minds.

With that being said, the first change I will suggest is a change in attitude. Without a doubt, perhaps the most powerful incentive of action is the reward that follows. This is the incentive that currently drives the majority of our trainers. The will to train, at the moment, is based heavily on the possibility of joining the high rank through activity. Although activity is an unconcealed show of loyalty, it is also a collection of actions executed deliberately to gather attention. As such, I must audaciously state that at the moment, I feel as if our trainers train members not out of compassion, but out of their own self-interest. This must be halted.

Many may argue that this statement has no ground. But the undeniable fact is that there are two obvious issues with the current training system that must be remedied before we can go any further. These two issues are grounded in the overall attitude possessed by our Officers who train members.

The first is an issue that must be handled by the high rank. The idea that constant activity through training will lead to a good impression in the minds of the high rank must be dispelled. Such a notion only breeds greed, and each training hosted is only another step toward a promotion in the eyes of one who views training as a chore that must be done to advance further. Without a doubt, trainings are an effective way to gain publicity, but it should not hold precedence over other actions in the minds of our Officers. How the high rank decides to act upon this issue is not of importance, but regardless of the action it must be done eventually.

The second is an overall issue of place quality. We possess an abundance of training places without moderation. Many are poorly constructed, completely outdated, or merely ridiculous. Even the most advanced training places currently being used are mere copies or modifications of training systems created in 2011 or 2012. In addition, there appears to be a prevailing preference for trainers to use their own places. To this, I suggest that the future Director of Training and the developers at Armacham Technology Corporation work closely on maintaining an approval system, which will be discussed in more detail below.

The final obstacle we must address is rank advancement. This document will not focus on that aspect; I fully support the database and point system proposed by General Andrew2899lee and I hope to implement it under my guidance. Of course, this system is malleable; should any complications occur, I will act to correct the system appropriately.

|| [3] How I will address it
The problem that needs to be managed is quite immense, and so it should be expected that an immense amount of changes need to be made, ranging from legislature to overall trainer attitude.

The following are a few things that must be implemented:
[-] An approval system for training places
[-] Trainings need to be timed
[-] Trainers need to stop being methodical
[-] Trainers need to start teaching
[-] The trainer should have priority during a training
[-] Discipline must be enforced
[-] Trainers must be regulated

| An approval system for training places
Ideally, places should be submitted to a member of the Department of Training for approval. A mock-training should be hosted there by an experienced trainer, and the place should subsequently be graded on its overall training versatility, with a score out of ten. The Department of Training must also give a yes or no to approving this place; this decision does not have to coincide with the score given. This marks the end of the Department of Training’s involvement in the approval process.

A developer or representative of the Armacham Technology Corporation will enter as well and grade the facility out of ten in terms of quality. This score should be reported to the Department of Training for a final tally. The Department of Technology must also give a yes or no to approving this place; this decision does not have to coincide with the score given. This marks the end of the Department of Technology’s involvement in the approval process.
If the training place fails to get a yes for approval from both the Department of Training and the Department of Technology, the training place automatically fails the approval process. The submitter will be promptly notified by the Director of Training. Should the training place receive approval from both departments, it may move on to the next stage of approval.

The two scores will be averaged to produce a final score. The Director of Training should set a threshold score out of ten that training places must reach for approval, and the final score will be compared against that threshold score. Should the place pass this check, it will be labelled as approved. Approved training places should be placed under the Favorites section of an easily-accessible account for future reference.

The plan above is advantageous because it combines both the opinion of the Department of Training and that of the Department of Technology to gather a holistic opinion. It should be understood that the quality of training places should be maintained because they serve as not only the location of trainings, but also as an obvious example of our technological ability to both newcomers and onlookers.

| Trainings need to be timed
This is a change focused on pleasing our trainees. As much as trainers may wish to believe that their trainings are exciting and attention-grabbing, the fact remains that nobody wishes to sit through an excessively long training.

Trainers need to keep things brief. Many trainees in every clan associates attending trainings with receiving promotions; they want to maximize the benefits of spending a significant amount of time attending trainings. Long trainings discourage members and can often result in members leaving the training early because they either no longer wish to continue or they have another event to attend to.

However, catering to the promotion needs of trainees is not necessarily a bad thing. By keeping trainings brief and concise rather than drawn out and sloppy, we can efficiently train a greater amount of trainees. Short trainings also means there can be more trainings hosted in a day. Members will be more willing to look at the shout and attend the event posted there if it hasn’t been too long since it has been announced.

All in all, trainers need to understand that there are other trainers that may wish to host as well, and that there are many trainees that may wish to participate but are unable to because the server is full. At most, trainings should last one hour. Even if the limit is set at that, it should be understood that this limit should be achieved only rarely.

| Trainers need to stop being methodical
Every trainer is replaceable and that needs to be understood by everyone interested in training others. The right to train is a right granted by rank, and should be used appropriately and efficiently. By receiving the right to train, a trainer understands that trainings are executed to aid trainees. There is no benefit to repeating the same training over and over again. Anybody can follow a given procedure to training. Although consistency in quality is necessary, that can be achieved without systematically following a list of things to do.

Creativity should be actively implemented in training. This is what separates a true trainer from a fraud. If a trainer is just a mindless worker who executes the same training every time, that trainer is absolutely useless. Fundamentally, aside from rank, what separates a trainer following a set of instructions from a trainee following a set of instructions? If a trainer that repeats the same training is required, I can simply script a place that will do the same job automatically.

The real issue with methodical training is not detrimental to the trainer, but rather to the trainee. People learn, and they do it quite well at a rapid pace. As an example, I point toward General Training. This particular map grew in popularity in the Roblox Assault Team, and consequently became a primary training place from 2011 to 2013.

However, a huge disparity in skill between older members and newer members was present; people had begun to memorize and optimize tactics to conquer obstacle courses and fighting arenas. This gave them an unfair advantage to their peers, and while it is true that people inherently should practice at any given location in a real situation it should be kept in mind that trainings should be places where skills can be assessed and demonstrated; it is dangerous to host many similar trainings in quick succession because you risk taking note of members based on primacy rather than skill.

| Trainers need to start teaching
We need to stop focusing on picking the best and promoting them up the ranks during trainings. That is not the definition of training, and it shouldn’t be either. Currently, throughout the clan world, trainings exist for the sole purpose of people to show their skill and possibly be promoted.

This needs to be changed and can be changed. We have tens of thousands of members who are still in the low ranks in a system that primarily focuses on rewarding combat ability; surely this is evidence of a deficiency in not activity but overall ability.

However, there hasn’t been anybody who focused on extensively working toward remedying this apparent deficiency.

Despite this, a fix can be achieved. Trainers need to start teaching people who attend trainings; they must include lessons, no matter how basic, because combat skills are not innate: they need to be taught. I propose switching the current training focus from constant drilling with competitions, tournaments, and obstacle courses to dedicating at least one third of the time training to education. There is no point in drilling skills that have not been properly taught; doing so only leaves enormous gaps in knowledge and ability.

| The trainer should have priority during a training
The trainer in charge of the server has total control and primacy over decisions. This is a rule that is known by all, simply because it is a demonstration of respect. However, in light of recent trainings I have attended, it is evident that this rule, no matter how instinctual it may be, needs to be enforced.

Trainers should not interfere with other trainers. From now on, I propose the following edict: during training, you are either the trainer or you are a trainee. There is no middle ground.

What this suggests is the lack of a need for a secondary trainer, also known as a co-host. That is true; the presence of such a figure during a training is both redundant and ridiculous. To have two teachers and supervisors in one training not only causes unnecessary conflict, but also gives the minor trainer a reason to not participate in activities and simply idly supervise the training and still receive credit for being active.

Even high ranking officers and other members with training abilities or commands should not interfere with training. Interference includes, but is not limited to, a lack of respect for orders given by the trainer and utilizing commands without authorization from the trainer. Likewise, a trainer should not give any member in the training special privileges; if a member is not behaving as a trainee should, it is the responsibility and duty of the trainer to remove that member immediately, no matter what rank that trainee should possess, as covered below under discipline.

| Discipline must be enforced
This applies to both trainers and trainees. It is the trainer’s job to ensure that trainees are kept in check. Proper behavior must be maintained. Should any trainee prove to be a distraction, the trainer has the responsibility to remove them from the training immediately to set an example; delaying punishment can be misinterpreted as tolerance for bad behavior. In addition, should a trainer act inappropriately during training, it is the responsibility of the trainee to contact the Department of Training and report the incident with as many details and evidence as possible. The Department of Training should possess the ability to restrict an Officer from training or to grant probation to an Officer as a disciplinary punishment.

All in all, trainings are not to be taken as a joke. If you decide to attend a training or decide to host one, you are representing the group as a whole. Be on your best behavior or risk being punished.

| Trainers must be regulated
Until now, there hasn’t been a way to tackle the issue of punishing Officers and other high ranking officers for inappropriate behavior during trainings, both as trainees and trainers, other than the possibility of demotion. In my opinion, this has supported the supposition that trainers can get away with inappropriate training etiquette.

However, the right to train can now be taken away. Linking both admin scripts and training scripts to an asset description, I can utilize MarketplaceService to keep a list of trainers who have their training ability locked. Suspending the right to train will be as simple as updating the description of a place. This can even be extended to control over the database; administrative permissions can be revoked upon suspension.

|| [4] Conclusion
There are a lot of things wrong with the current training system, and both trainers and trainees have identified the faults we must address. To remedy them, I request the execution of the plans enumerated above. I am willing to negotiate and work toward perfecting the system, should any major flaws be detected. In conclusion, I request your support for a better training system and a stronger Venezia.

Whew, nice. I'm interested in the last part where you said we could LINK ban scripts together. What if in a database, we were able to insert names. In that admin script you wrote us, it could link TO the database and when we put a name on the ban list, the person cannot train and is banned from the place for X amount of time?

Brian, I agree with you an all, but...

Why do you wait until you're no longer 2iC to bother with FEAR's problems? Why didn't you try to fix anything before you retired? You keep talking about how the current HCOM doesn't care about FEAR's problems, yet I can bet that you never tried to solve them either.

wow

again, Blaze.

just like all the other current HRs, you follow the same pattern...criticizing me instead of of actually doing something.

My era is over. It is your problem now. I did all I could as 2iC. Stop criticizing the past and take action in the present.

And this problem is much more of a collaborative problem than a problem put on by one person so blaming me doesn't help.
