I'm sure we are all aware of "trickle-down economics?" So it is to my understanding that if this works, taxing the poor even more than we already do will just make the economy (which is at a gruesome state btw) sort itself out.
Why can't we do this more? |

The solution is less taxes overall, not just less taxes for the wealthy. And taxing someone making minimum wage 100% still won't give you the revenue of taxing a millionaire like 5%. Less taxes for the rich means they'll create more wealth and jobs, and less taxes for the poor means they don't need to rely on welfare as much and they can buy more stuff. And, y'know, have jobs.
I'm personally in favor of a flat tax at 10% or so, so someone making 10,000 pays 1,000 in taxes and someone making 1,000,000 pays 100,000. To me, that sounds as fair as we can get without abolishing taxation altogether. Or maybe we could just abolish the income tax and replace it with something else? Oh, the possibilities :D

I'm well aware what trickle down economics is, it's where the rich and powerful get tax breaks.
But then how does such a big and expensive government get funding? So by taxing the poor, the trickle down economics is in effect and the government still gets funding. Besides, it can be a motivation to get the poor to actually get a job for once. |

@midmyat
The poor didn't become poor by having good money management skills, we all know that. So why motivate them to buy more useless junk instead of the essentials? In fact, I'm sure that taxing the poor can only help them, by providing them with the skills to manage their money properly. |

| Yeah, because putting loads of poor people in stress and not enough money to buy the basic needs for survival will totally help the economy, i mean, it won't cause more crime or anything, or put more people on the street. |

"it won't cause more crime or anything" You need spare money to buy the things essential for crime, so by doing this we are in a way decreasing crime. And with modern day security equipment, small time crime is almost impossible. In fact I'm sure that the only way you could even steal a carton of milk from a convenient store is with a sizeable budget (which the poor won't have)

Actually, you can murder someone with a rock, quite easy, and they're free and found all over the place, and, a poor person could just steal food, if anything it raises crime rates, the fact you think otherwise just shows how little you know about these subjects
It doesn;t take weaponry to steal food and milk, it takes a hand, and legs for running.
Poor people can barely survive with todays taxes, taxing them more will cause crime rates to increase and many poor people to die of starvation. |

Besides, to kill a person with a rock would still be a sloppy way to kill someone, and again, with modern day security equipment and forensics, I wouldn't doubt that the police would have a hard time finding the guy who did it.

So? You'd prefer to starve to death rather than steal food to feed yourself and possibly a family?
I assume your from a rich family and don't know how hard life is when your low on money because only someone like that could post something as ridiculous as this. |

Yeah, a carton of milk they probably couldn't afford anyway because you want to tax them more, and explain how stealing a carton of milk, will make you have to pay money? It's called stealing for a reason, and i'm sure, the police aren't gunna hunt you down and make you pay a fine because you took a carton of milk |

| Trickle down economics works only with a flat tax rate. Even with a flat tax rate the rich still pay more. |

"It's called stealing for a reason, and i'm sure, the police aren't gunna hunt you down and make you pay a fine because you took a carton of milk" if it becomes a sizeable problem (like you predicted) they will. Besides, you are missing the point. Modern security equipment is so good nowadays, that it will be harder for them to do so. Bank robberies in the UK have gone down in the past decade due to the security equipment they have. |

False.
Crime only goes down when opportunities besides crime are open to those people. Security equipment has nothing to do with this. |

| Adding on; Opportunities can only open when an economy is freer, such as trickle down economics. |

@street Even with the corner shops that don't have security equipment, the owner usually owns a gun of some sort. Stealing things is quite difficult these days, it's nothing at all like the movies.
"Crime only goes down when opportunities besides crime are open to those people. Security equipment has nothing to do with this." Did your parents tell this to you? |

@street Iceland is none of my concern, in fact I'm sure the economy of Iceland isn't as bad as America's so it doesn't need this sort of thing. This thread is talking about America for the most part because that's where I am from and plan on living for the rest of my life. So please, exclude yourself from this thread because you have no idea how the economy here works. |
