This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...
My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace! |

What if an Atheist decides to be a Marine?
"Before God, I swear this creed", that'll sound awful. |

@Plut i'm atheist and plan to join either the US Navy or Marines. i'd probably just say the oath in the name of the Marines instead of in the name of a greater being.

| bebithetuffle, You're wrong about that opinion. Each branch has their own creed to follow. And this is the Marine Corp's Creed. |

Sounds grand. It's a screwy job but somebody has to do it.

Doesn't interest me. I'm more than likely going to go through West Point and join either the Marines or Navy as an officer. After many years in the military I'm more than likely going to venture into the lovely (heh, what a joke) world of politics.

| If you're someone who under estimate, or have no faith in yourself. Then the Marine corps isn't for you, You go join a paint ball club at living legends. This is to people who are willing to learn how to Adapt, Overcome, and Improvise in the battlefield. Not for idiotic selfish kids that have no idea what a creed is. |

@firefly;
If you're not being sarcastic then 7.8 billion years of evolution was for naught. |

| 1st off Alpha8, your face is stupid. 2nd of all, every marine is a rifleman. And finally, fighting in war is ONLY purpose for the armed forces, so if you're scared that your enemy is going to take your life because you don't have the guts to take theirs, either stay at home or go to the Academy. You might learn something new. |

| I don't know about in the U.S. but in Australia, the armed forces also serve as a humanitarian force. Giving aid and manpower after natural disasters, and generally protecting us from things like terrorism, in conjunction with the Australian Federal Police. |
