| I own a Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker copy, but I lost it and it's somewhere in the house (hopefully, at least) - would it be legal to use an emulator to play it? |

| Downloading a unsupported console emulator is not going to get you arrested. |

| Not to mention downloading emulators of unsupported consoles is not that big of a crime compared to other illegal activities. |

Basically meaning no one would charge you for it, and if they tried to they would get laughed out of court.

they are perfectly legal
neither nintendo nor the publishers of any gamecube game make any profit from gamecube sales or gamecube game sales any more and haven't been for a long time
so long as you don't try to sell the emulator or roms for profit yourself there is nothing you can do that is illegal |

@japan Emulators in themselves are not illegal
Nintendo still holds copyright over both the roms and the firmware that an emulator require to run.
It is copyright infringement if you do not own both the original disk *in gamecubes case*, and rip the firmware from your console yourself.

I download old Windows operating systems and MS-DOS operating systems. Is the FBI going to suddenly knock on my door and arrest me? No, because Microsoft isn't making a profit off of that stuff.

all emulators technically are illegal, but if it's for an outdated console, no one cares.
