I guess it's because of "all the family members and friends they leave behind"
It's more selfish to not help them and expect them to get over it alone. |

The definition of selfish: (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
Now refine your sentence and idea now that you know the correct meaning of selfish. |

I never understood the "cowardly" bit.
Humans are survivalistic by nature. So they'll do a lot to stay alive.
I'm no encouraging suicide, I'm just expressing my opinion |

@Slash
The idea of not helping someone depressed is often stemmed from selfishness. People often believe they'll get over it, just so they can avoid the time and energy it'll take to truly help that person.
You tell me it isn't selfish to ignore a depressed person just so you can avoid work. |

It is shunned upon and considered 'cowardly' because instead of solving your problem, you're choosing to give up. Just think about it, death is an eternal solution, to a (Most likely) temporary problem. The hardest times in life are the most common. Everyone goes through them. I have been a victim of it, and have almost faced suicide but pulled myself out of that thought.
It's not simple for everyone. And you're not a 'moron' for preventing another person from doing it. Nor are you automatically a coward for committing suicide. If someone is facing the problem I'll certainly attempt to help them (So long as I know them). But I will NOT give them all of the attention in the world. |

@Galax
Some people really cannot see the solution.
And I know this sounds harsh but some financial, physical, and physiological situations are so bad people never truly recover from them. |

@Galax Well, you should at least give them some of the attention. Because they faced hardships that they could not bear and they should at least be given credit for that. I understand that suicide is not a perfect solution but what I think is that bullying gets to one's head and it makes them go insane enough to hurt themselves like that. They believe it isn't a temporary problem, and sometimes they're right, like with Amanda Todd. The abuse she got followed her everywhere because of the fact that the reason she was being tormented was accessed to everyone. I almost faced suicide as well. In fact I attempted it but failed, obviously. Basically, what I think and what you should probably think is that it's a sad thing but the world must not stop turning when it gets to that level. |

@Spooky
Well often times depression is a lot deeper than that.
Someone called you fat? You'll get over it.
Everyone at school or the workplace hates you and picks on you constantly? You gotta admit, that sucks. |
