What do you think will happen if somebody created a place filled with AI bots disguised as guests? Would it attract more or less players?

The hoax players would not appear as players in the games page, so I doubt it would make a difference for players looking for a game.
However if the player is already in the game... not sure. It could be used to entertain the players until more come along I suppose.

Guests cannot speak complex messages, so you can insert all the safechat words in a table and randomly pick each word, simulating a typical guest. Besides, if you make the guests most realistically, it could fool players into believing each guest is controlled by a human.

Guests never say a lot. I guess they are guests after all, so no logical pattern will need to be used in the conversations they do.
The main problem I think will be to move them like players do. If you want to go as far as to recognise what most players do (such as jump on other player's heads) then that will be a challenge. But, making them move like people will be something to think about:
-- They stop randomly and turn to a slightly different angle. They don't all go in the same direction at the same angle. They all act in different ways. --
Is it worth it to make a convincing guest? Or will obvious AI bots suffice?

And most guests seem to use the arrow keys so make movement patterns match that. And just for the fun of it, add a state where they say "Answers" followed by "Animals", and "Mythical Beasts", and finally "Honest Politicians" on a very rare occasion.
