A copy of "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. It's a short read, only about 100 pages, and it presents the future of the world if we abandon individualism in favor of socialist collectivism. People are referred to by numbers, they all live in communal apartments, their jobs are assigned by the state... very similar to what happened in the biggest collectivist state of all, the USSR.
It explains very well the concept of individualism, and living for nobody but yourself and nobody else living for you either. It's a very food book. |

How socialism abandons individualism? Communism abandons many rights and basic laws of humanity. But neither actually abandon individualism, you'll be suprised to hear. Socialism has many theories, and is a broad term which probably even covers me, and you can paint, write, say or wear basically what ever you want to. I'd say capitalism is less individualist, it seems to create a sense of alienation and have you seen how many of us feel compelled to wear expensive suit tie and breifcase kind of brands?

P.S
I appreciate your lasting concern about left wing mindsets, but I'd really appreciate your doing some hardcore reasearch since none of that stuff happened even in the USSR (only if you were homeless you were assigned a job). And the USSR has no connection with the vast majority of leftists and even socialists, nor will it ever. |

| So you were able to choose your own job in the USSR, diamond? I must admit that is the first time I'm hearing this. |

I only say this because my family grew up in the USSR. You got a job according to what you learnt, which you could choose. Seems free enough choice ._. ?
I think there were party preferences, but just saying. Maybe it was different in Russia, but I'll have to look into it. Can't see why it would be with all theo tehr nations though. |

| Depends which type of Cynicism. Ancient Greek or Modern Cynicism? Objectivism is one of these, take a guess, and guess which one I am. |

@Soviet
I bet they would love that :D Seeing as they always think the rich need to give more of their money to the state. |

| Ayn Rand is an author for liberal nutcases who haven't the faintest idea in what is going on. They are so muddled up in some ideology scared of federal government crap that they can't even function. Maybe they should just do what many of their people have already done, move into the rural forest and get the hell away from normal functioning society. If you want to be individualist go and live in the forest - but don't live amongst society with a rich house that was built by people who worked harder but earned less. |

| I don't really think much of his books, since the arguments they turn out are basically ubiquitous. But the writing is the fluffiest thing possible. Its so poorly written xD! |

| Hello Midmyst. It's good that you want to get Christmas presents for your friends regardless of what they believe, but why would you base their present off the political views? Christmas is not about politics or what else pushes us away from each other. Is it? |
