Thread Version 1.0 ______________________________________________________
This concept is still in its beta state. Please post feedback/comments only if you have a suggestion to improve it.
In 2011 Roblox released data persistence, and in 2012, personal servers. These personal servers allowed players with Builders’ Club to run a server that saved every single change to it, set permissions for who can enter, build, or even have admin at the place. Personal servers were a huge leap for Roblox in terms of building a permanent place. However, the ideal tools for building are still missing, and without these tools and properties available to us in Roblox Studio, what advantage is there to building with preset parts? That’s why I’m proposing Group Studio Building.
Group studio building will function similarly to a personal server in how players can build together, but will have many new features. First of all, it’s based in Roblox Studio and is intended entirely for groups of players to be able to build together.
Some features: -All players who are in the studio build together will be listed on a leaderboard similar to that used ingame. -The highlighted selection box that appears on the currently selected part(s) will be color coordinated to the player who has the brick selected. -Scripts and plugins will be accessible while working. -You can view the work of another player ---This simply involves clicking on a button that will highlight what that player has done. If it’s coding, it will highlight the section of a script that’s been changed/added within a certain number of times that player has accessed the script within a set period of time.
Configurations: These will be similar to the personal servers in how they work, but I’ll be adding/replacing some. -These can be set to friends, best friends, specific names, all players, etc. Banned: Who’s banned from the place. Visitor: Players who can view but not change anything about the place. Editor: Players who are allowed to edit/build (online/offline) -These can be set to friends, best friends, or have specific names. Admin: Players who can erase another player’s work Owner: The owner of the place, they can set all of the other configurations.
New configurations: Online/Ingame/Offline: Who is allowed to edit the place while the owner is offline or online. Ingame is for those who are allowed to edit while the owner is in the studio server as well.
Who this will be useful for: This is targeted mainly at players working on joint projects, such as a few players for a major roblox group working on a large project such as a clan fort, exclusive building groups such as EBR (The Elite Builders of Robloxia), or even just a few friends who want to work together. However, this feature would be useful for all players, as I hope for it to be a feature any player can use without having to have Builders’ Club. That’s right, this feature would be available for NBC (Non-Builders’ Club) players!
This concept is still in its beta state, meaning updated threads will be posted if there is helpful feedback. I’m hoping to end up with this as a potential feature for Studio 2.0. I prefer 1.0 because the camera controls are easier to use, but if this was a feature only in 2.0, I’d gladly make the change.

I would most definitely agree. I've been looking for something where basically anybody can join you in game (if you accept their offer,) so you can build together. That way I can build places with friends and they can save. Good. |

| I'm going to bump this idea because I would love to see it implemented. Collaboration would be easier than ever before if this were given attention. |

completely support, should also be able to view scripts that another player is working on while they are working on it, so you can see the work happening (but cant change anything). Everything another player adds, should go in the same workspace, but they should be highlighted the the players color code like you said for brick selections, so you know exactly who added them.
The player gets a random color code when they join, so you are 100% sure that they are all different so 2 people wont have the same color and you wouldn't know who added what... |
