Sniping isn't really a new thing in Apocalypse Rising. As a matter of fact, ever since the Mosin Nagant and the M14, killing players from afar has been much easier in Apocalypse Rising. Since the Kin Reimagined update, sniping has been made even easier. Not only is sniping gratifying, it's also a safer way to engage hostile targets that you may encounter- player or zombie.
This is a guide showing you how a certain loadout may better your results when you attempt to snipe.
Ratings are based on how well the firearm performs as a sniper rifle.
Not all weapons are great for sniping in Apocalypse Rising. If you're trying to pick a player off with a makarov who's in a neighboring town, it's not likely you'll hit them due to the low range and accuracy of the pistol. This is where long rifles come in.
Mosin Nagant: A World War II era sniper, which is bolt action. Favored by the Russians, the mosin is also great in Apoc. While the clip is small, the iron sights are very accurate- especially when crouched, and you can most likely kill a player from 200-300 studs with 4-5 shots if you have good aim. They're easy to find, and the ammo for it is too. Low rate of fire is compensated for with a high damage output and high accuracy.
Rating: 5/10
MK17: This battle rifle isn't very common, and packs a lot of punch at medium range. While I wouldn't recommend this as THE gun to find, it can easily replace any other sniper variant in Apoc. The MK17 is great for medium-range encounters- for example, across Kin or perhaps a distance where light arms are rendered useless. The MK17 is accurate and uses 7.62x51 rounds- the same rounds used by other battle rifles like the FAL and M14. Attach an ACOG/SUSAT or perhaps even a Holo, and what ever other attachments you'd like, and you've got yourself a medium to long range killing machine.
Rating: 7.5/10
M4A1: If you're not the kind of guy or gal who likes to precariously take shots semi auto from afar, that's ok. The M4A1 is anything but a sniper, but can replace a sniper if you prefer to battle at close range as well as medium to long range. The M4A1 is reliable and the ammunition is easy to find. This gun is great if you're in a sniping posse, and you're supplying suppressive fire at a distanced enemy. The rounds hit hard, and can send any experienced player ducking for cover. Equip this thing with a forward grip and a SUSAT/Holo sight and you're set.
Rating: 6/10
M14: My rifle of choice out of any in the game. The M14 is a great gun for extremely long ranges and close quarter encounters alike. The ammo is common, too. The M14 is, in my opinion, the best sniper rifle available- and if you're in the sniping business like I am, business will be good, whether you've got iron sights or a scope.
If you're into sniping from long ranges like me, I'd recommend the ACOG or SUSAT strictly, and always crouch while sniping. Attach a forward grip for more controlled semi-auto fire, and a 7.62x51 silencer so that zombies won't detect you and players won't notice the boom of the M14. If you've done all of this and loaded up on ammo, congrats- you've created what I would consider to be the best sniper rifle.
Rating: 9/10
This list isn't final! Don't rage at me because I missed what you would consider to be a really good sniper. I only rate guns that I handle a lot, so feel free to add a realistic review below yourself, or wait for a new version with more guns.
TIP: Crouching will always increase accuracy.
TIP: Strafing left, right, forwards, and back are the best ways to aim precisely.

I would enjoy combining tutorials. My tutorial doesn't have a good guns section, since I've very ignorant in that field. I only have used a couple of guns.

Attachments for sniping:
Forward Grip: Not attachable to any AK variants. Great for recovering from powerful recoil at long range. Importance for sniping: 8/10
Laser Sight: You won't be hip-firing while sniping. 0/10
Holo Sight: Good for medium range, but not a scope I'd recommend for sniping. 3/10
Reflex/Red Dot Sight: Close quarters. Naw. 2/10
Kobra Sight: Medium range. 3/10
CCO: It's even in the name. Close Quarters Combat Optic, I think? Nope. 1/10
SUSAT: An excellent scope for sniper rifles with a high magnification and obelisk sights. I'd recommend this for any sniper- it's what I use. 10/10
ACOG: Like the SUSAT except with cross-hairs instead of an obelisk. Either works, except the SUSAT obelisk takes up less area on the lens. This is the scope you want for sniping. 10/10
Silencer: If you're going sniping, it's a no brainer to use a silencer if you've got one. You won't attract zombie aggro while firing at players, and the annoying boom that you get with an unsilenced rifle is suppressed. If you're sniping from medium to long range, players won't know where the sniper is and think they're getting attacked by a zombie.
I've seen some confused players look around when they get damaged by a sniper rifle with a silencer. They pull out a knife and spin around, or their sidearm, etc. They just don't expect a silenced sniper.
Hope this helped, Ev!

Anywhere where military loot spawns. Gus' mansion, the old mine, military tents, road blocks, fire halls, police stations, the radio tower, chopper crashes, deer stands, civilian tents, trinity HQ, and the abandoned fort.
Hope I helped. It's the 7.62x51, 20 round clip that the m14 uses. |

Thank you for this guide. You see, I am planning to become a bandit, and I am taking up on sniping. I actually got a [M14 + ACOG + Silencer] combo before (but I had very few ammunition). It's great to see that my combination is the best sniping tool in Apocalypse Rising, AND you can teach it to other people.
@thedestroyer The military bunker does not exist anymore. However, the refugee camp is a good area to look around in for military items.

As I said in my tutorial, Trinity HQ is a perfect spot to live. It spawns constant SMG and assault rifle ammo, as well as food and other things. You could stay in it forever, theoretically.

the mk 17 is, stat-wise, the best battle rifle. there is no debate, as its only failing point is the fact that it's tan. the fal is slightly worse, but still worth using over the mk for some people because it's black and thus won't give you away at night. the m14 finishes last out of the "long range" battle rifles, and will lose to an hk 417 or 21 at medium range.
the g36 is basically a longer range m4 with no downsides, and the an-94 straight off the ground has what most would consider the best iron sights in the game, manageable recoil, and accuracy on par with the m4's. the ak-12 is also decent at long range and can use a grip but because of the way gun spawning currently works it is very rare. |

@Milbert
Really? Perhaps I've been battling newbies then, because the M14 is the gun I would prefer for sniping. I'm not really trying to focus on close to medium range combat (mind the M4 rating). But the MK17 I found not to be the best. But perhaps I'm wrong. |

| It was Trinity HQ. I remember going inside it and I remember seeing "Patient Zero Survived" written in blood on the wall of the first or second floor. So yeah, Patient Zero probably is still in v5, but I may be wrong. |

| Subject 0 does exist. Just turn on all the power in the map and if you are the person to turn on the last light everyone dies but you. |
