"Playing violent games makes you more mature. If you don't, you're dumb."
This is actually something one of my friends said, I totally disagree with this. Anyone else? |

I do play violent games, in fact I don't play Call of Duty.
"you'd probably freak out or something if someone died around you" What the hell you think? Would I be happy if someone gets shot in front of me? I would call for help, or just run.

That's stupid. Black and white statements like that are idiotic. That's just like saying "Playing violent video games makes you violent!" or, on the other hand, "Playing violent video games has absolutely no effect on someone".

| @Shovuc Mostly violent games can have a big effect on young kids. My little 7 years old cousin really wants GTA 5, are you kidding me...? I'm 13! |

@little
Yeah...I don't think a seven year old should be playing that because of all the inappropriate content in that game. That's a bit too much. |

there was a study that just tested 1200 or so kids, and they found no outcome between playing them and not
those who became violent had mental issues, or other factors in life. |

I think the main issue with GTA V is it's objectified portrayal of women.
The only acts of violence in the game that unacceptable, imo, would be the fact that you can idle a vehicle over someone and cause blood to squirt out (eww) and the torture scene. Like I think beating people up or shooting them is not really that bad if you are of age to play the game, as long as you are mentally balanced. |

@crash
That is a very hasty observation of the discussion. Did you just decided to skim over everything said and read the words "video games", "violence", and "children"? |

| once the kid is able to distinguish between fantasy and reality than there's no possible way that violent media can affect him |

@TheAssasin
I agree. But I think that if a kid is going to play a violent video game, he needs to go under psychological evaluation to make sure he/she is capable of separating reality from fantasy. Personally, I don't think anyone under 13 should be playing M rated games, but per American law, at the end of the day the parents or consenting guardian/s are in charge of this. |

| kids mature at different rates, so i personally don't think there should be a hard age limit for playing violent games |

| It's actually very important for those who are new to video games (not for teens, adults, just kids) so they can understand that there's not only violent games around. |

| I think the rating system should be based on age, not maturity. Like instead of a teen rating, it should be 12 or 13+. |

| Many people do that, in fact many parents just go ahead and by 17+ and 18+ rated games for their children. I had my first 17+ when I was 13, which is my current age. |

I think your friend is immature
Also, studies show that violent digital entertainment does desensitize you to violence, make of that what you wish |

| @TheRealCommander Well there's one of my friend who got suspended from my school after brutally assaulting (attacking) someone younger than his age, he still shows up at everyone at my class but he never manages to fight well. He did show up to me once, I didn't wanted to hurt him so I just told him to relax and be "cool". He did get away from me without doing anything, but then showed up to one of my best friend, he literally got owned and my best friend did managed to teach that idiot a lesson. Now apparently the guy haven't tried to fight others it's being about a month, but I swear to god if he EVER did this on my brother I would be so mad. |

| Kids mature at different rates, and violent video games can be too much for some kids and don't even affect others. Playing them makes absolutly no affect on your maturity level. |
