i found out why the combat felt so terrible.
it's not because of the low attack speed early on.
it's about the responsiveness and hit detection in general.
i would be targeting an enemy, and basic attack him, and it would miss several times. i would cleave entire waves, only to miss. suddenly i'm rubberbanding because ggg is not blizzard and can't afford state-of-the-art servers. there's a big delay when using abilities. it's like it's literally impossible for my character to leap without spending a second standing still, staring into space.
great stats, great trading, great potential. shame the combat is so awful in a game that's 95% combat. i'm going back to diablo iii, where i may run into a freeze or maybe the servers will go haywire every few days, but the combat feels amazing in a game designed around combat. |

| also, because you can't refund your entire skill tree, if you make some noob mistakes and don't know what you want to build until later, you have to make a new character and go through that super boring earlygame again. |

what's so hard to understand about a game's combat feeling very sluggish and unresponsive?
doesn't take a rocket scientist with 200 iq to figure that out |

| and also, does anyone know a good hack & slash game other than diablo iii, torchlight ii, or path of exile? i already beat diablo iii on inferno with a very unviable build, torchlight ii just felt kinda stale after a while, and path of exile's combat is awful. |

| In the PoE Beta you were allowed to refund your Skill Points at the end of every Act, I wonder where that went. |

| GW2 will be #1 on my list for a while in terms of MMOs. EQN's art style looks like it was made to be played by 13 year olds which is really disappointing in my opinion. On the other side of things, however, Wildstar is looking really good. |

uh guys
mmos aren't hack & slash games
hack & slash games is isometric, spam left and right click to kill hundreds of monsters, collect awesome loot, use said awesome loot and sell the rest. they also involve a ton of dungeon crawling.
mmos are third-person rpgs with tab-targeting or a variant on it. the combat is instead 12345123451234512345, and it's more focused on stronger individual enemies instead of large groups of monsters.
and gw2 is great for being half a game. if only the pve element weren't so terrible that i don't even consider it a game. |
