BEST
1. Playstation 3
Some may be puzzled by why someone such as I, someone with an Xbox One fan primary, would recommend a Playstation 3 as a good starting platform for a new gamer. Well the simple truth is that, despite some of you having the audacity to make up such fallacy, I like Sony products as well as Microsoft products.
Regardless, the Playstation 3, in my opinion, is the best platform for a new gamer, due to it's free online, the inclusion of a Blu-ray drive, and a stellar list of exclusives. Sure, it's online experience, judging from what others and myself have said, is not on par with Xbox Live, but it's not bad by any means, and it's free, so you really can't complain about lackluster online experience in games, when the only thing you're spending is your time.
2. Wii
Yet again, this will puzzle some, because I have made it clear how much I dislike the Wii U. But the original Wii was a great console, despite having underpowered hardware and being stuck in that terrible resolution of 480p, it was still fun to play, especially at gatherings. What makes the original Wii so good for budding gamers is the pick up and play simplicity of it's games, it's very inexpensive asking price of 50$, and the large selection of games for it, many of which are very cheap nowadays.
WORST
1. PC
Before you say "ogm console elitist! PC MASTER RACE!", stop ; some of my favorite games of all time, such as Grim Fandango, are PC exclusives. But this doesn't mean I'm going to pull any punches : the PC is not the best place for a beginning gamer to start. I have heard absolute horror stories about crashes concerning games like Call Of Duty Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and of course, the infamous bug fest that is Grand Theft Auto IV, which, even though the latter can be fixed through mods/patches, is still inexcusable, and I would never recommend anyone those iterations of the games.
Personally I have never experienced any game crashes, but I have experienced odd things with files missing, or .dll files not even being downloaded (when they should have been), and even though this is probably just me, I wouldn't want to risk it, recommend a new gamer to PC game, and them possibly experience a nightmare scenario, and quit trying to game due to it's perceived complexity.
However, the PC would be a great platform for an EXPERIENCED gamer, but not one just getting their wings.
2. Wii U
Funny how I put it's older brother, the Wii, as the second best platform to recommend to a budding gamer, eh? Well Nintendo screwed up, imo, every way possible with the Wii U, the successor to the Wii. For starters, the Wii U's hardware is absolute junk, with a paltry 2GB of ram being bottlenecked by slow tri core 1.2 ghz processor (which FYI, is slower than both PS3 and Xbox 360, two consoles introduced in 2005 and 2006, respectively).
Not only that, but the Wii U does not innovate much like it's older brother did ; if you call the inclusion of a touchscreen innovative, just remember that iOS/android users were playing games with a touchscreen years before the Wii U was introduced.
Another major gripe I have with the Wii U is that, yet again, Nintendo used their own proprietary disc format. This was forgivable with the Wii back in 2006, but is inexcusable now that games have reached a complexity where a 25 GB optical disc is simply not going to cut it. What makes this especially worse is that the Wii U is marketed as an 8th gen console, and technically, it is. But it's hardware and 25 GB optical disc is not very 8th gen, if you ask me. I don't see how Nintendo's Wii U will be a strong competitor with the Xbox One and Playstation 4. Heck, it's not even a strong competitor with 7th gen consoles.

| I honestly agree here, except a bit on the PC part, since many educational games are made strictly for the PC and don't need silly .dlls |

I agree with the best ones, not the worse ones.
1. PC's have educational games, and you can buy one of those cheap Pentium 4 computers for $50- at the right place for the new guys to start gaming. 2. The Wii U IS the Wii (Family Edition/Mini), just with Wii U games. The only thing that sets it back is, no GameCube (original Wii).

that's like saying "learning a second language would be easier for a 20 year old than for a 8 year old"

Well that's what I was trying to say. I would never recommend PC gaming to a new gamer unless they have a rudimentary understanding of computer hardware. |

Wow, some of you must have some serious issues accepting an opinion. I literally put an "imo" on this threads title, and yet some of you are still offended.
Pathetic. |

I'm offended that you think you're the only one entitled to your opinion.
