Some autistics are geniuses (Albert Einstein was autistic) some of them are dumb and can't do anything about it, necessarily, it varies. There's other "gifted" people due to brain disorders. ADHD people, OCD people, etc. |

"Does this mean I have lost my autism...?"
Being smart or not does not mean you do or do not have it.
If you do, you always will have it, if you don't, you never will have it. Autism is a brain disorder, meaning that when you were being developed, your brain was wired differently than that of a normal brain.
Unless a professional phsyciatrist diagnosed you with it, you never had it, and never will. |

| So you're saying if a doctor never diagnosed me with me with a disease I wouldn't have one? |

@Matt, absolutely not!
Autism isn't a disease!
It's a mental disorder that people are born with, and will have from the second they're born to the day they die. |

Yes, I did, how did what I say make no sense?
Typically, people diagnose it about ages 1 to 5, if they have no reason to believe they may have it after that, it's extremely likely that they don't have it.
Diseases come and go, they're easy to detect, people get them checked out, but they will just go away eventually.
Mental disorders such as autism may be tricky to detect, but when people go to school (such as preschool or kindergarten) is when people check development of their social interactions, all that stuff, and if something seems odd, they might get tested for a possible brain disorder. If enough evidence supports that they'd have it, then it means they had it when they were born and will have it for their entire lives. Typically, if they end up having zero reason to think they'd have it, then science proves that they don't; they didn't have it when they were born, and it won't just suddenly be something that they have any other time point in their life. |

| Well, Jakob, I am assuming that you're not a preschooler or kindergartener, obviously, and if you HAVE been tested many times, and the professionals all say you don't have a disorder, than you don't, you never had one, and never will, they don't just appear, they don't just go away. You never had autism then, and if you did, it doesn't just go away or ware off. Disorders are more of an absense, they're not physical presences such as germs that have the potential to come and go. |

| @Matt2703, when people are very young, such as kindergarten or pre-school, the school administrators will frequently check up on things such as social interactions, or other unusual behavior signs, they will get tested for any possible disorders. I was confirmed with autism. |

Some Autistic people are gifted. Others are just simply useless.
Given our society's push for patience and acceptance of those with mental incapacities, you see why they're the leading rolemodels.
