((Things will be changed as we decide to change things. This is just a draft that will be edited over time. I'll also reword a lot of it, it's rushed and just ideas put down. More will be added to sections, maybe other sections added.))

=THE RED FORGE= Lexicon of Lore 1.0 --------------------------------------------------------- This is the Lexicon pertaining to all of the fictional story aspects of the group "The Red Forge", a steampunk clan created on the basic principle of "There are no steampunk clans out there. Why not make one?"
This exists mainly simply to exist. It serves as a reference to the theme of the group, along with the canon roleplay for anybody who is so interested. None of it actually effects how the group is run, and while it is best everybody is familiar with the lore, there is no requirement.
1) History 2) Government 3) Technology 4) Weaponry 5) The Cities
---------------------------------------------------------
=1= HISTORY
History was not recorded for actually a very long time; what history was written was scarce and scattered, and was often lost in one war or another, burned in a fire, trampled underfoot, or taken as some sort of prize and its purpose forgotten. Time was treated in a similar manner. Only the moment mattered to those who lived in Terra.
The first records one would find begin labeled as "Year 1". They do not touch on what came prior. What little is known was written down far later when things such as common intellect were considered of value, taken from oral recitation, distorted by time and tale. Prior to Year 1, there were no established nations. No empires. No unions. Nothing. In Terra, there were only scattered city-states, primarily located in the Dabra Lowlands of the southwestern shore, facing the Western Ocean. These cities constantly were battling one another for possession for little more than fertile soil and their own dreams of power. Little progress was made; anything created was lost when a city was attacked. It was nothing but a cycle of redundant conflict and death.
The Dabra Lowlands were surrounded by the mountains known as the Stargrazers. Steep, rocky, cold and lifeless, they served as almost a box to keep the cities confined to their places. It was known there were lands beyond it due to foreigners who crossed them, in the hopes of finding something more than whatever existence they came from. Though the Dabra Lowlands was the home to little else but warfare, it was still the most advanced and populated location of Terra. Beyond the Stargrazers were only tribes and fledgling city states, constantly rising and falling for one reason or another. It almost seemed like the site of some sick cosmic game.
Then, however, people finally began to think, and questioned what had been done for so long. No event correlates with this shift in mentality in the oral histories. The change was widely credited to a popular deity, the Conductor. Due to the lack of any evidence pointing to a worldly phenomenon taking place, the Conductor from then on became the primary religious figure for what would become the Red Forge.
Elected and appointed emissaries from each city traveled to a "neutral" village that was near the center of the Dabra Lowlands. In little time, a universal peace was quickly agreed to and, shortly after, cooperation. The new enlightened way of thinking drove them to agree that it was in every city's best interests to avoid warfare, and that it would be more productive to work together. There, it was agreed that an oversight council would be needed, and power given to it to regulate and guide the separate cities in the transition from independence to unity. There, they created a pact, which quickly became the adopted term for the new found coalition; "The Red Forge", an agreement forged on the ground where so much blood had been spilled in the past. This remains the name to this day.
---------------------------------------------------------
=2= Government
Despite the cities all agreeing that it would be best to unify and work with one another, old prejudice still exists for many, and the inherit belief that one's native city is better than any of the others. Because of this, none of the cities wanted to bow to another. Each one did not want any real influence from another city to exist inside them. As such, the Council of Emissaries holds no official military or policing rights.
It is Year 847, and the Council has been based out of the city of Red for years, built around the location the Red Forge was agreed on. The Council is headed by the Prime Voice, the official 'speaker' of the Council. All of the other members of the Council are called Emissaries, in respect to those who the Red Forge was created by. The Council is small, there rarely even being Emissaries at any given time. What is decided by the Council is obeyed due to the desire to keep the system running. The Counts and Countesses, who are the figureheads of each city, do not legally need to listen, but are pressured and forced into it by the NSC and the other Counts.
As the Council is not allowed to have a military themselves, it accepted the help of an organization called the National Security Conglomerate. The NSC is a roughly held together group of Commandants who communicate between cities on how best to enforce both local and Council law. At first viewed as somewhat of a vigilante force, it's policing activities granted it favor. Commandants are each given an area they are to police, recruiting anybody they wish to assist them. Lieutenant Commandants are then taken from those recruited to take on similar roles of the Commandant. Anybody in the Red Forge who wishes to join the "military" joins the NSC. Were the Red Forge to go to war, the NSC would serve as the fighting force, simply recruiting more people to make up the numbers required.
---------------------------------------------------------
=3= TECHNOLOGY
The Red Forge does not place much emphasis on the advancement of militant technology. While factories are common and completely automatic (Aside from some minor supervision), since the Red Forge was agreed on people have been reluctant to develop into that area, for fear that it may be taken as a threat. Simple market products are produced in mass quantities, allowing prices to remain incredibly low. Due to the lack of precision in many areas, hand crafted items are naturally of much higher value.
Everything completely runs off of steam. Water vapor is cycled and pumped to push a piston in an engine, the motion then converted and amplified by systems of further gears and pistons. Turbines can be found as well, for certain more advanced things, such as electrical lighting.
Due to the use of steam engines, transportation has become increasingly common. Across the years, an enormous system of railways has developed through the Dabra Lowlands, connecting every little piece of land to everywhere else. Ships as well now rely on the use of steam engines, despite the very concept of boats being mere fantasy only two hundred years ago. Now, even, one could see airships flying around. Designed around the older concept of a simple balloon, these craft have two large air sacks constantly heated and filled with helium to keep a small craft afloat. The concept has evolved from that, many of the more impressive versions being several kilometers long, and toting mansion sized gondolas.
---------------------------------------------------------
=4= WEAPONRY
The cities of the Red Forge are all paranoid to high extremes of one another. Despite there having been no conflict for hundreds of years between them, it's rooted into the culture of each. The thought is that if time is spent really developing weaponry, then another city may advance further, and put the others at a disadvantage in the case there was, for whatever reason, war once again. Due to this, it's completely taboo.
People cling to swords above all else, again as a culture point. Though civilians are not allowed to posses them in most cities, there's a sort of romanticism with the weapons. Black powder weapons, meanwhile, completely ignore all of the skill and ability a person may have. No amount of parries, blocking, and toning the body can stop a projectile like that. This is why despite having the full capability to create better firearms, the Red Forge refuses to.
The most common form of firearm is a simple smoothbore flintlock pistol. Rifled versions are simple to make and it would cost nothing extra, but once more the reluctance to advance took hold. Some people as well have weapons that load a single cartridge filled with powder and shot into the chamber. All they require is to prime and pull the trigger. It would be easy to make better weapons with cartridge rounds, using ideas such as revolving cylinders or levers, but nobody would accept the leap. Even cartridge firearms are not accepted yet. The NSC has stores of them however, as a precaution.
What really changed how people thought of combat was the cannon. This came prior to small arms. Many models were developed in a few short years, from the easy to make smoothbore matchlock types, to complex multi-barreled rotary versions firing canister shells. Buildings and walls were dominoes. A mass of attacking soldiers could take extreme casualties just from a single volley. As in the spirit of most weapon restrictions, most were immediately banned from common use. The NSC standard is a rifled version of the basic matchlock.
---------------------------------------------------------
=5= THE CITIES
Red -- Capital of the Red Forge. Located in the heart of the Dabra Lowlands. Primarily a governmental and civil city, with little industrial presence. Made almost completely out of solid brick.
Cerise -- Major port city located along where the Western and Southern Oceans meet. Thick stone walls surround the city, and the buildings inside are made of the same solid stones. However, the streets were never re-done, and simply remain dirt. The thought is, if it's not broke, why fix it? Heavy industrial presence, primarily close to the ports.
Crimson -- Industrial heart of the Red Forge, located to the east, and built on both sides of the Bloody River where it flows from the Stargrazers. Civilian hosing has been demolished over time, giving way to the rise of industry. The only city to have used smooth stone rather than dirt, cobbles or brick for streets. Concrete has begun to be widely used here, giving the city a somewhat simple and bleak look. Produces much of what is used in the country, from furniture, to airships, to weaponry.
Amaranth -- A heavy industrial city located to the north of Cerise. A lackluster city that exists in a large forest. Much of what is found here is made of wood, and lumber is it's primary trade resource. Despite being on the waterfront, the city is only a minor port.
Vermillion -- Located on both sides of the Bass Ravine. Most buildings are rough and made of wood, aside from a few 'important' structures. The main feature of Vermillion is the massive stone bridge that spans the Ravine. This was for defense purposes. A large gate sits at either end of it. In the event of major attack where an army reached the city, people would evacuate to the bridge and cross to the side that was not under attack. The two gates would defend either side. After the hostile army entered the city, the lost side would be burned using a system of underground lantern oil, setting fire to the outsides of the city first and burning to the center. The army would be killed by the blaze or the wall. Industry exists heavily on the outskirts of the southern side.
Maroon -- Shortly to the east of Red lies Maroon. A city of mainly artisans, there isn't much rhyme or reason to what is built here. Statues and fountains are everywhere, homes are made with whatever the builder wanted, and every street is art in some way. Due to the incredible pride taken by the residents of this city, none wanted the big hulking factories of industry to take root here. What steam piping exists does so underground, out of sight. The leading producer of hand crafted items, which are almost always better (and more expensive) than factory made ones.
Burgundy -- Burgundy is the only city not located in the Dabra Lowlands. It actually exists off the shore on a small archipelago. Much of its port space was converted to industrial purposes over time, but it produces little of value. A few interesting species of fish is all that it has to offer that is really 'different'. What makes this city interesting, however, are the people. Burgundy is absolute madness. Carnivals litter the streets at all times, jesters and dancers at every corner, music filling the air. People stumble from place to place, drunk and clueless, forever drinking in the atmosphere of their home. Not many people understand why Burgundy was even contacted and allowed to send an emissary. If little else, it's a popular spot for people to travel to. |

Does it matter? Inysa wrote amaranth before you wrote your base name. I see no need for this argument I refuse to change the name of the city just because you want to start a arguement over it. Please take yourself to the hospital they need to examine your arguement starting syndrome |

No, kai. You're just making up bull now. I actually did the faction of actually making the base named after common sense, and I spend a lot of time on that fort. You're obviously copying dude, that's really disrespectful.
Also, one of your city's name is similar to an RSF HR.. |
