Can someone explain the new outlines to me? I want to use them effectively, but they just don't make sense, so I generally disable them. |

Like anything else in ROBLOX, it is up to you to use things as you see fit.
They were put in to replace the Bevelled brick look that ROBLOX had before last year.
The outlines render more easily than the bevels, creating less lag.
I disable them as well, because I usually am trying to make walls or vehicles out of many parts and don't want the 'blocky' look they create.
Of course, if you have a build where you want the bricks to show then you should use the outlines.

Outlines are a surfaceproperty of all parts. Each surface can be set to smooth no oulines through the parts properties. Or you can dissable all outlines through the properties of lighting. Uncheck the outlines property in lighting. |

| If the outlines were enabled, would a sphere, or cylinder get outlined by its mesh? Or get outlined by part? My computer broke so I can't see for myself. |

| Outline are a good way to help builders. They make it easier to show the junctions between to parts, to locate a misclicked part, or just for a defined edge for your constructed build. Often times you can disable it and not have any problems, they are merely a convenience. @ The Above, I believe they will outline the mesh because it sounds odd that a Sphere have a square outline. The best way to find out is to try it, so I hope you get your computer back. |
