so lets say there is life in distant galaxies but those galaxies are almost infinite amounts of meters away, talking 10^20 meters away now since the speed of light is approx. 300 million meters per second, it'd take years and years for the light in those galaxies to reach ours so, by the time we'd have evidence of life living in other places, it'd be thousands to millions of years AFTER it actually happened, so we wouldn't be able to tell if they were still there or not and the same vice versa so technically, we'd be living in the distant past

in fact i think in the 70s or 80s there was a really strong radio signal coming from distant space, but it hasn't been heard since |
