When things couldn't get any worse, the whole town is flooded by tsunami. Luckily, you live on a plateau that wasn't hit at all. The whole town beneath you is now flooded and you have no way of getting food or water unless you search the remains.
Your shack's quite small, with a bed, chair, 20" TV, fireplace, microwave, an oven, a few feet of counters, a sink, and a refrigerator(+freezer). Luckily no power lines were knocked down and the city's transformer is on the plateau, so you have the benefit of power.
The fridge contains the following: (M) = microwavable (O) = must be cooked in an oven or above fire [F] = keep refrigerated [Z] = freezer storage [X] = do not refrigerate [=] = optional refrigerate 2 steaks (M)[Z] 1 chicken (O)[Z] 1 ketchup bottle (40oz)[F] 3 packs of 10 hot dogs (M)[F] 2 water jugs (2gal/each)[=] ----------- The cupboards under the counter contain the following: 20 plastic cups [X] 20 plastic forks [X] 20 plastic spoons [X] 50 paper plates [X] 25 dollars (in one dollar bills) [X] 1 pack of hot dog buns [=] 1 pack of juice pouches (8/12 remaining) [=] ----------- The counter contains the following: 1 chopping board 1 set of knives (5 regular, 1 steak, others are missing) 1 rag for drying hands -----------
What do you do? There's no way out of the city except down, which is flooded.

Maybe I can go for a swim, though I don't know how far the water is below me. If I do, can I get back up?

The water's quite deep. And it's salty.
Most of the houses are destroyed and a lot are completely submerged.

Oh, no worries about that. The problem is if I can get back up my plateau if I go down for a scavenge.

You're about 1/4 of a mile to the ledge that goes down. It's a road, and your car is half-gassed.
Problem is, the ramp is flooded at the bottom too.

I'll risk the walk then. Hopefully, I'm as good as a swimmer as I think I am.

The walk is quite short, surprisingly. Halfway down the ramp, the smell of salt really hits you.
There's a tarp hanging off the edge of the ramp, somehow.

Hm... a tarp? Maybe I can use this to collect rainwater. For now, I hold on to it in order to hold on to other items.

The tarp rolls up easily, and you carry it under under your arm. A mailbox, just the box, is lying on the ground where the water is. After looking at it, you notice that the water is moving. It didn't look like it at the top, but it could've always been moving.

Currents! The water must be pulling back!. I should tread really slow, making sure I hold on to something.

Examining the water, it is pulling back.
You can feel some aftershocks from the earthquake that recently happened.

It's too dangerous to tread right now, and I guess the tarp will have to do for now. I head back up the plateau and wait for the disaster to cool down.

You briskly jog, getting some exercise. The tarp is still a little wet, too.
You return home in a couple minutes. ~Actually that was my second guess~ |

Phew. I look around for a couple of sticks to support my tarp to make a pool.

There's a couple logs, about 3 feet in length and about 8 inches in width.
That should suffice.

That it should. But the tarp isn't very reliable if the weather's dry. Once the disaster has calmed, I'll make another journey to find any valuables.

Something catches the corner of your eye; 4 nails and a hammer.

A hammer? How did I miss that? I gather up the nails and hammer the tarp on the logs. Then I stab the earth, hoping it should stay in place.

the earth replies "ow" [just kidding]
Everything seems to stay in place, good and upright.
You feel a little thirsty from all of that jogging.

The juice fills your taste buds with a sensational goodness that consists of apples, oranges, and bananas. At least, that's what it tastes like. [my mouth waters from that .-.] Your thirst is gone, sorta.

Hm... with the tarp set, I think the weather has calmed. I make another supply run. I make sure to take my clothes off so I don't get my clothes wet.

You walk down the ramp, and the water's gone.
There's another aftershock, too.
You can already see lots of things - boards, broken mirrors, a bathtub, and lots of bricks.
There's a siren in the distance; people must be coming.
