Re: (UAF: PO) - Changing our conception of what "training" is

The following suggestion is sponsored by the People's Operations...

Before we even begin to discuss so called training "reform" we need to realize how fundamentally twisted our conception of "training" is.

Let's look at "training" in real life. No mater what it's for, the fundamental components of training are magnitude, timeframe, and frequency. Magnitude is how difficult the activity is. Timeframe is how long the activity is per rep (eg 1 hour trainings). Frequency is how many times per day or week the activity is done. Much of it has to do with persistence and endurance.

Now let's go back to ROBLOX. What I see when I go to a training is a sword fight elimination round, or a TDM, or a gun tournament, or people taking turns sword jumping or doing obbies. This is not training, this is a contest.

I will not deny the merits of "contests". They motivate people to participate, and they cause people to try harder and do better as a result. But the amount of long-term benefit taken from a contest on average is very minimal. There is no set magnitude to show progression (people's skill levels vary, so there's nothing to measure against). What I mean by that is: I could lose to one person but then win against a different person, but that doesn't necessarily show that I've improved. That's why points awarded for these things are completely arbitrary and based on the luck of the draw.

So, I've established that training is of very minimal help to most people. There's no way to show how you've improved. The dilemma is - how do we solve the problem? Obviously we want as many people to participate as possible, and we want to make sure that no specific group of people is alienated because their "kdr isn't as good".

Perhaps we can finally find a use for the "Preliators", a group considered to be the "best" at gunfighting. These people who I presume know what they are doing may be able to set the standards for what every UAF member ought to try to become. Apparently, they already are supposed to be "role models" but they have no real function as they are right now. If preliators themselves were to be the bar that the rest of the group wants to reach, then we have established a "set magnitude" to which we can measure the progression of the rest of the group against.

A preliator training partners system could prove to facilitate actual training, and not just contests. The way to gain all the benefits from contests without changing the basic system is easy - at the end of every training hold a contest like a TDM to serve as motivation for everyone. There's no lost incentive here. This also gives UAF the uniqueness factor. Anything unconventional yet effective is attractive to quality members. This makes us more than just Generic Clan #54.

This concept is still in the works, but I would appreciate some feedback on it. Thanks.

Trainings are not for fun. We need to learn new skills. Putting us to fight isn't helping at all. Teach us tactics that will help us be better.

I would say something but i guess it would be regarded as me 'leaking' Preliator info.

I agree entirely with the above statement, which is why this preliators partners system, by facilitating more individualized training, is a good idea in my opinion.

I have learned more skills with ONE private training with Legosonic411 then with 100 UAF trainings.

This ratio isn't a clear sign of teaching our fellow comrades skills that we need to be better at what we do. Which is raiding for fun :)

This is a good idea. I wish trainings would train to teach and not be about competition.

This WOULD work.

Yesterday me and Yoyo were repeatedly sparring in RCL up to 10.

First i won 10-3, then he progressively got better through tips etc and in the final round it ended up 10-9.

So yeah, i would certainly support this.

So you just take my training reform concept without giving any credit nor did you include GK spectrum of the sword based trainings; k.

lego...

1) No idea you had this idea to begin with. Sorry if it seems like I "stole" it.
2) No reason to blow up at me. If anything, you should be happy the idea is getting support. I'm not doing this for publicity - I'm doing it because the training system as it is is not good. You shouldn't care about publicity yourself.
3) It's cool if we were to add GK into the spectrum. Personally I find it easier if both "swords + guns" are kept in one group as different branches, but we could work it out somehow if you feel that attached to GK.
4) Again, the concept is in the works, so don't blow up at me for not including one part of it. This is a rough draft of a rough draft. We still don't know the organizational details. What we do know is the fundamental principle the system is based on and the general gist of how it would work.

@Pro I showed this to Michaek almost a month ago, and he was like "Yeah, I'll work on it". I just find it funny he doesn't include the whole central theme of it

The central theme? What do you mean by that?
Also, let's cut the drama, we're all here for the same reason, and that reason isn't getting popular.

The central theme was to have trainers teachtheir respective skill to the members rather than to have them teach about something they know nothing about- ive seen a decent bit of trainers give horrible advice in a wide array of areas that they aren't even good in.

Clearly, that would be part of the plan.

Being an intellect, I feel like I'm not qualified to tell people how to wield a gun. It's basic stuff. We could also incorporate the core ranks (combat intel development) into the mix. That way everyone gets some support. I agree fully with your statement there lego, thanks for the help.

I support this idea, however,

Trainings are, or should be fun. Nobody comes on ROBLOX to not have fun.

@Willing:
What do you mean by fun? If people WANT to get better, then there's no issue with "fun". Training has a clear function: to make people improve. If you have ideas as to how to increase the incentive to participate with "fun" then I'm interested in hearing it.
