I think games will probably be around 100 GB. If 4K resolution catches on, this will only cause games to consume quite a bit of storage, especially if it becomes cost effective enough to natively render them in 4K, instead of just upscaling them.

If it was the 9th generation of pokemon, There would be room for about enough for Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Pokemon Gold/SIlver/Crystal, and Pokemon Ruby/Sappahire/Emrald to fit in one game with 1 huge story.

I doubt it. They could fit all the games into one package, but they don't want to when they figure they can make 2x as much.

@soccerman If it was the 9th gen of pokemon, they would be smashing shutterstock photos together and jury rig pokemon.

they can already do that, nintendo is just listening to the community and not bothering to fit all the games onto a CD

I was originally thinking the 9th Gen of pokemon, but now I get this is about the ninth generation of consoles.

Blu-Rays (BD-ROM) would probably replace the CD-ROM as a means of game storage and retrieval, we might have powerful consoles, the third Wii might include yet another crazy innovation, and technological power will continue to ride the exponential rocket to singularity.

We might have hyper-realistic graphics, if we're lucky enough!

About size, it will definitely be larger than 8th gen games, probably going up into the ballpark of double digit GB values such as 50.

Also, the 3DS of the ninth gen might hold the 7th gen or 8th gen of Pokemon, leaving the 9th gen either to the 10th gen (fast lane) or 11th gen (slow ride) of handheld games.

As simple as Pokémon games are, load times would not be an issue (even on disc media).

@OP
no
games will only get to that size whenever people have ~15 GHz, 64 GB ram (i know this is already possible), and 100 TB

@Bad

I beg to differ. Why would you need a 100TB hard drive for a 100GB game? I don't see the logic behind that.

And ram has no correlation between storage size...wait, are you joking?

100TB is way to much for a computer...
Even for a AlienWare.

@catman

I don't think so. Even high speed internet is unacceptable for downloading large games. And games will only continue to increase in size, so you can't rely on digital downloads, though they are convenient.

@Shovuc, you don't have to download games by the internet, you could just use DAEMON Tools.

Why do I get the slightest feeling that you are jaded due to some scratched discs?

Unless you're a collector, discs take up little to nil room.
