PROLOGUE - A Soldier/Officer Guide? Why? And Who is This Guy, "Tyranasaurus"?

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

Hello, soldier. First, some very basic info. I am your Sultan, Mahmud II (Remember to call me Sultan; I am not "sir", or "Ty". I am Sultan Mahmud II. Respect that title). Also keep in mind that we are not friends. It's not that I don't like you, it's just that I cannot develop personal relationships with the men. It makes it hard to punish you when you break the rules. So, since we are not friends, do NOT ask me to test your maps/models, do NOT ask me to make you a map/ad/thumbnail/uniform for free, and, most importantly, DO NOT ASK ME FOR A HIGH RANKING POSITION.

If you are reading this guide, it is because you have decided to become a loyal and formidable soldier in The Grand Ottoman Empire. By reading this guide, you will be ensuring future promotions for yourself. I.e., if you wish to get promoted, you must read this guide and abide by its rules.

This 3 part guide aims to inform soldiers of what is required of them within the group, as well as to impart upon them important group information. Reading this guide is REQUIRED.

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

PART I - The Grand Ottoman Empire and You!

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

This part of the guide is to tell you the expected behavior within the group, as well to tell you some easy tricks and tips on how to get promoted!

A good Ottoman soldier MUST do the following 10 things!

1. Follow ALL orders from officer ranks (HR+) WITHOUT QUESTION. This means that when an officer gives you an order, you say "Evet efendim!" (that means "yes sir") AND NOTHING ELSE. If there's anything that's sure to make an officer angry, it's seeing a soldier say "..." after they're given an order. Do not be passive aggressive. Just follow orders without question. Following orders is a SURE way to get you promoted.

2. Be in UNIFORM! When at TGOE maps, you are ALWAYS considered on duty. There is no grey area. Either get in uniform or leave. Failure to comply will result in demotion. Being in uniform at all times, even when not at TGOE maps, is a sure way to impress me and your officers.

3. PATROL! Showing up to patrol the Ottoman forts is ALWAYS a good thing. Trust me, I am CONSTANTLY checking our servers, even on my iPhone when I'm not at home, to see who is active. It may be boring if you're alone, but believe me, stick with it. The more people that come to patrol, the more fun it will be. Having people patrol our maps shows that we are an active group and brings in visitors to join us. PATROLLING IS THE SINGLE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR OUR GROUP. Plus, any HR+ can hold official trainings to get you promoted! It's MUCH easier to host a training when the men are already there patrolling. You wouldn't want to miss out on a promotion, would you? Good! Then patrol!

4. Be kind and courteous to visitors, allies, AND enemies. Why be kind to enemies, you ask? It shows that we are a mature group that handles war and other such engagements like GENTLEMEN. During the colonial era, being a gentleman was just about the most important thing you could do. Showing that we are mature will cause people to leave their groups and join us, because they know that we're a more professional group. Additionally, if you REALLY want to make an enemy angry, you will act intelligently and reserved. There's nothing an idiot/troll hates more than someone who won't give them a good reaction. Remember that when dealing with visitors, allies, and enemies, you are representing OUR group. If you can't do that in a mature way like I described above, then keep quiet. There's nothing a HR hates more than having their negotiations sabotaged by a pissed off soldier.

5. RESPECT your fellow Ottomans! They, just like you, joined this group to be part of a powerful group of people all dedicated to the same cause. By causing arguments or insulting other members, you are tearing apart the very fabric of this group. Insulting group-mates (or visitors, allies, or enemies for that matter) can easily result in demotion or banishment. It's not hard. Remember the golden rule: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

6. Use official terms! Although remembering all these terms/words is not necessary, it's a VERY easy way to prove that you read this guide and that you wish to immerse yourself in the culture of the group (In other words, using these phrases will help you get promoted).

Ottoman or Turkish words/phrases used in TGOE:

"Evet, efendim!" means "Yes, sir!".

"Hayir, efendim!" means "No, sir!".

"Salam" means "Peace" or "Peace be upon you." It is used like both "Hello" and "Good bye."

"Allahu Akbar" means "God is great." It is also the command to charge.

DISCLAIMER: we are NOT a Muslim group. We only say things like this because the OTTOMANS historically did. We say them in the interest of maintaining historical accuracy.

"Alhamdulillah" means "Praise be to God". Refer to the disclaimer above.

7. Be aware that you are ALWAYS being watched by people of higher ranks when you are at our forts. Do not try to break rules or protocol. You will not get away with it. If YOU witness somebody breaking rules, report it to me IMMEDIATELY! But do not say something like "Builderman was AAing". I need CONTEXT. All reports should have a FULL story of what happened.

8. DO NOT ASK FOR PROMOTIONS. This can NOT be stressed enough! Why is this a rule? Because asking for a promotion proves that all you're interested in is promotions. If all you want is promotions, walk away and join another group RIGHT NOW. In The Grand Ottoman Empire, we expect our soldiers to have a real desire to better the empire and become the best colonial group on Roblox. This does not include you becoming second in command. That isn't to say that you CAN'T become second in command, because you definitely can. Just follow the protocol for promotions and you're sure to reach one of the highest ranks in this group!

9. USE GRAMMAR, SPELLING, AND PUNCTUATION. Again, very important. This shows that our members are not only skilled; they are INTELLIGENT. This also means that you should refrain from using internet slang such as lol/lel, omg, nu, etc. Also, refrain from using faces! This is one of those rules that isn't ALWAYS applied, but it definitely makes getting promotions easier! Use words to articulate your emotions. Not faces.

10. Become a real part of the group! Converse with people about the group on the group walls, show up to group places very often, and even do some tidbits of research on the Ottoman empire! It never hurts to learn more about the role you are playing in-game.

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

PART II - The Elusive Promotion and How to Attain It

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

So, you want a promotion? Please, just spam my inbox with requests. Oh wait, DON'T.

Remember, you don't "deserve" a promotion. You are not "owed" a promotion. Your officers will give them out as they see fit. If you have a problem with the way the officers promote, take it up with me, not them.

Asking for promotions is STRICTLY forbidden! If you catch me on a bad day, it will even result in demotion. So, play it safe, and DON'T ASK. But if you want a promotion, this is how to get one.

Azap to nefer: Go to the Sultan's profile and complete the quiz at his place, [TGOE] Initiation Quiz. Once you get the badge, PM the Sultan or another HC so they can promote you.

FOR ALL FOLLOWING PROMOTIONS YOU MUST HAVE READ THIS GUIDE. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT, YOU CANNOT GET PROMOTED.

Nefer to onbasi: Prove basic ability to follow orders during training.

Onbasi to cavus: Prove intermediate ability to follow orders during training.

Cavus to sakasi: Prove intermediate ability to follow orders during training AND exhibit mature behavior as well as intelligence.

Sakasi to mulazimi-sani: Prove intermediate ability to follow orders during training and exhibit mature behavior as well as intelligence. Keep in mind that being promoted to [MR] means that you're ready to begin training to become an officer. This is not a regular promotion. You don't get it for simply showing up to things. You must prove your worth as an officer.

Mulazimi-sani to mulazimi-evvel: Prove above average ability to follow orders during training AND exhibit mature behavior, intelligence, and responsibility.

Mulazimi-evvel to yuzbasi: Prove above average ability to follow orders during training AND exhibit mature behavior, intelligence, responsibility, and leadership qualities.

Yuzbasi to Kolagasi: Prove well over above average ability to follow orders during training, exhibit mature behavior, intelligence, responsibility, leadership qualities, and have EXTENSIVE knowledge of official commands and terms within TGOE. Also, you may not be promoted to Kolagasi until you've been Yuzbasi for one week. HOWEVER, being a rank for a week does NOT equal promotion. This is simply the MINIMUM. A panel of at least 3 HC'S and the Sultan must VOLUNTARILY (without your influence) meet and decide whether or not you deserve the promotion. You will then be tested in person to see if you qualify. So, asking OR implying (e.g. "Man, I wish I was a HR by now. I totally deserve it!" or "I wonder when I'm going to be tested for HR") that you want a promotion to HR will result in IMMEDIATE demotion. No exceptions.

HR PROMOTIONS: You must wait a week between each promotion. HOWEVER, that does not guarantee you will be promoted. It just means you're eligible. The Sultan and his HC's will decide if you stand out enough for a promotion. DO NOT ASK.

Kaymakam to miralay: Wait a MINIMUM of two weeks. The Sultan decides personally whether or not you get promoted to HC. Asking, implying, or anything of the sort will result in immediate demotion.

ALL HC PROMOTIONS: The Sultan decides where and when to promote his HC's. There is no set requirement; simply be extremely active, extremely intelligent, and host MANY trainings and raids. Especially trainings. If you aren't hosting at least 6 trainings a week, you're not doing your job as a HC.

Vezir and Sadrazam are elected positions. Elections are hosted every month or so.

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

PART III - I'm An Officer Now. Just What The Heck Does That Mean?

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

An officer is anyone who is a kolagasi+. This is a short list of requirements for TGOE officers. Your responsibilities, of course, go far beyond these. These, however, are the basic necessities.

1. Obey orders. Just because you're a HR, HC, or G, doesn't mean you're above orders. Anyone higher rank than you is your superior and must be treated as such.

2. Respect the men. Do not be a tyrant. Just because you're an officer, that doesn't mean you're better than the men. Remember, you were once one of them! If a soldier messes up an order, do not berate and humiliate them. Be stern, but not aggressive. Ask them whether they know the order, and if not, teach them. NEVER USE ADMIN COMMANDS TO PUNISH SOLDIERS WHO MAKE MISTAKES. The only exception is :fling. This is a nonlethal and nonrestrictive way to get them out of line and to embarrass them just enough to try harder next time.

3. Do not hand out demotions and exiles left and right! It's hard enough to get promoted. Don't cause soldiers to desert by demoting them every time they make a comment, break a rule, or screw up miserably. Simply tell them that they're receiving a warning and if the behavior continues, it is punishable by demotion or exile. Simple as that.

4. Lead by example! Officers are expected to be FAR more mature than regular members. If you're not behaving maturely, you will be demoted without hesitation. Immature behavior includes, but is not limited to: Spam, internet slang, AA, arguing, excessive use of force, insulting people, and other general tom foolery. If you're not sure whether it's mature or not, simply don't do it. It's probably not. Also, DO NOT USE ADMIN COMMANDS UNLESS NECESSARY. Silly commands like :loopfling and :cape are very immature and will result in demotion. Also, :gear is the MOST forbidden command in this group. Giving yourself gear that is not already in the starterpack will DEFINITELY result in demotion. Don't be stupid. Just don't do it.

5. Patrol and host trainings! This is your NUMBER ONE responsibility! I cannot host 50 trainings every week. I just don't have the time. It is the job of my officers to know the commands and host SEVERAL trainings every week. If you do NOT know the commands, watch a training and take notes. Do NOT train the men if you are not 100% sure that you know every single command PERFECTLY (that includes wording). Remember, being active at the fort, and more importantly, hosting trainings, is the ONLY way to keep getting promoted as an officer! Hosting trainings as an officer is equivalent to attending them as a soldier. Just do it!

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

Conclusion - Wait, It's That Easy? I'm A Soldier Now?

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

Yes, it's that easy. Just abide by these rules, standards, and codes and be knowledgeable in all the information here, and you will be a HR+ in no time. This guide is essentially a cheat sheet for promotions. Remember to check back in on it every once in awhile to make sure you're keeping up to TGOE standards!
