"White" isn't supposed to refer to the race of people, it refers to skin color.

Like how you're supposed to call the type of people African-Americans, not "blacks".

Quick Example: European people are white, but we call them Europeans.

Elaborate, I am black. I am not from Africa, therefor I am not African Americans. None of us take any offense to being called black.

As for the OT, I don't see why it matters regardless. Japan doesn't have many races within it. It isn't limited to race. If someone from the US were to walk into Japan with blonde hair, they'd be considered a foreigners, because nigh no one has naturally blonde hair in Japan.

Geez, this is what happens whenever I try and tell people something! I'm going to quit MTVB since nobody ever understand what I try to make as clear as possible.

I JUST MEANT "white" and "Japanese" are two different things. White is a color and Japanese is an ethnicity/race. Although White may refer to the race itself, this is uncommonly used language.

This entire argument is stupid. Who care what race people in anime are? It's still not being diverse enough whether they're japanese or caucasian. The only difference between the two is that if it's japanese weeaboos are going to be all apologist about it and if it's caucasian it's going to be yet another reason for all those people whose sole purpose in life is to hate america to continue to live. Basically, we lose either way.

And about the African American reference to clear things up:

Everyone calls them African Americans for color equality.

No one says "my race is black" (though in some circumstances they do refer to THEMSELVES as black; but not their race). They say "I'm African American".

It's the same as calling Japanese people white since they have a light skin tone.

Okay, look. All black people are black. Not all black people are African American, but most that you'd meet in America are. It's not always correct to refer to people as African American, but it's usually fine. Unless you're talking with someone who's been overly coddled, referring to people as black is also fine and always correct. It's not a matter of self-identity or anything stupid like that, all jokes about me being Biggie Smalls aside. Some people are black. Some people are asian. Some people are white. Some people are insert other race here. That's all there is to it.

Trust me, no one will give you the title of Biggie Smalls even as a joke.

@Elaborative: I doubt anyone will give a damn if you quit or not, but sure.

No one says "my race is black" because of the same reason no one says "my race is X", firstly because it sounds like idiotic statement to begin with. (Grammatically)

My point was that not all black people are actual African Americans, being black is a racial classification used to describe people, for the most part, with a larger classification than African American. As I said, I am black and I am not from Africa nor have I ever been there..

But as they say, racial terms are society driven, so there is no need for us to debate about it due to bias.

The term African American is used because odds are if you're black and live in America your ancestors were from Africa. Just because I say I'm Welsh doesn't mean I was born in Great Britain, but neither does my claim to being American mean my ancestors were Cherokee. Your race is not something that you can argue about. Be glad that we live in a society today where it's not something you should feel any inclination to.

Also, I'm Biggie Smalls because a.) irony b.) rap music's a pretty cool guy all told

Only Biggie can be Biggie. There is no joke or hypothetical situation that can negate this logic because he is a legend in rap.

He isn't the best or anything, but a legend regardless.

I think that you're taking it too seriously. I'm not even close to the kind of person that doesn't think of rap as a valid and important genre of music, but putting Biggie Smalls, or anyone, really, on an untouchable pedestal is frankly ridiculous. He is not a sculpture in some pretentious museum to look at but not touch. He is a person and his impact is crafted by how we continue to reference him as a keystone in hip hop even a decade and a half later.
