I guess I'll put a short impression/review here after finishing Episode 1.
For those who don't know, The Wolf Among Us is a videogame derived from the comic series Fables, created by the same developer as the videogame spinoff The Walking Dead, Telltale.
Now if you have former experience with playing any of their recent games, you would find that the company's efforts are focused on making, essentially, more modern takes of point n' click games from the past.
This does not change with The Wolf Among Us.
So according to just my general philosophy, point n' click games usually heavily reliant on the entertainment value of their story, and this one is no different- though Telltale did take a few steps near the quick time events department, which by no means detract from the game, mind you, as its genre doesn't truly strive in organic mechanics.
Back to the story. Without any experience reading the books that the story had based itself off of, I had no point of reference whether this holds true to the material. The experienced in itself however was still a very enjoyable one- the mystery is pretty foreboding, and this new episode does a great job setting things up for the long run.
Though the more debatable aspect of it would be the gameplay's straightforwardness, with most of its 'puzzles' requiring only simple logic to figure out, and with how the game was set up, lead you just doing everything to anything clickable in hopes that it would present another cutscene, which would then let you show your findings.
But all in all, I had fun, so I guess it has a seal of approval from me. |
