Language arts is the generic name given to the study and improvement of language skills within the school setting. Traditionally, the primary divisions in language arts are literature and language, where language in this case refers to both linguistics, and specific languages. The five bases of language arts are reading, writing, speaking listening, and viewing. Reading is the ability and knowledge of a language that allows comprehension by grasping the meaning of written or printed characters, words, or sentences. Reading involves a wide variety of texts that helps a reader gain an understanding of what is being read. Reading of texts that are often included in educational curriculum include fiction, nonfiction, classic, and also contemporary works. Reading goes beyond calling word into the comprehension of the the texts. Grammar and spelling is key to being able to efficiently communicate and express feelings, writings, ideas, and thoughts.
Standards:
E.1.1- Students will be able identify and explicate the basic parts of speech. (Verbs, Nouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, Articles, Pronouns, Prepositions, Conjunctions and Interjections) E.2.1- Students will be able to identify types of sentences. (Exclamatory, Interrogative, Declarative, and Imperative) E.2.2- Students will be able to identify the cause and effect in a sentence. E.3.1- Students will be able to identify the different types of writings (poetry, friendly letter, report, and official document) E.4.1- Students will be able to differentiate the types of writing formats. (APA, MLK) E.4.2- Students will gain an understanding of APA format writings. E.4.3- Students will gain an understanding of MLK format writings. E.4.4- Students will be able to accurately cite various, writings and texts. E.5.1- Students will be able to communicate different purposes of writing. |
