This is my rough draft of my Debate case for the Resolution: Civil disobedience in a democratic society is morally justified.
I affirm, Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democratic society is morally justified. In order to clarify the round I offer the following definitions Civil disobedience - Black's Law dictionary: deliberate, open, and peaceful violation of particular laws, decrees, regulations, military or police orders. Democracy - Black's Law dictionary: form of government in which the sovereign power resides in and is exercised by the whole body of free citizens. Moral – Black's Law dictionary: Pertaining or relating to the conscience or moral sense or to the general principles of right conduct.
My value premise is morality, and my value criterion is the safety of the people. It is moral to be safe, and safety is important to everyone.
Contention 1: Civil disobedience is effective. Civil disobedient action has been a significant catalyst in nearly every major social change movement in U.S. (and world) history, starting in this country with the Boston Tea Party and extending through the anti-slavery, woman's suffrage, labor rights, civil rights, environmental and anti-war movements. Civil disobedient action can dramatize an injustice or danger to the general public as few other actions can. It both provokes other people to act and speak - often people who had previously been silent - and it opens up political space for them to do so. Civil disobedient acts are those of courage that inspire others to follow.
Contention 2: Civil disobedience is justified because everyone who conducts civil disobedience has the same basic human rights in a democratic society. If we do not protect human rights that we have, everyone will not be equal. Here is the part where “moral” ties itself into this subject. It is moral for everyone no matter what age, race, gender, or anything that can be a reason to dismiss someone from something, to have a say. Our human rights are codified in laws of a society. Therefore, by protecting human rights, we uphold the ideals of a democratic society. Without civil disobedience, the government would have more control, making the government not at democratic. This would make it harder for the people to have more human rights, as people would be prone to oppression. |

>Civil disobedient action >Civil disobedient acts
That sounds very very weird. Try:
Civilly Disobedient action/acts
Acts of Civil Disobedience Action of Civil Disobedience
Or something like that, so the words agree with each other. |
