The Idea :
Different Texture sizes can be imported, such as 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, and so on, up to 420x420 (current maximum)
The Benefit :
For many instances the default texture size of 420x420 is really not needed, and a consequence of this is that having a higher resolution texture than needed causes that texture to consume more data than it needs to. Simple wall textures can get away with 64x64, so why do they need to be 420x420 if this is just going to consume more data, and in turn, cause them to stream slower?
In other words, I propose allowing multiple texture sizes to be imported, without stretching them to fit in a 420x420 size. This will cut down on wasted data, and in consequence will help textures stream to places faster if used properly. |
