Pure can be pure evil as well.
Pure corruption is another prime choice. |

rome pioneered democracy and was by far the most cultural state during the classical times they also had built some of the most astounding structures of all time, and had a very powerful army |

"pioneered democracy"-- And were big on slavery and brutish "gladiator fights".
"most cultural"-- Is that why they changed religions based almost purely off a political decision?
"built some of the most astounding structures of all time"-- Persia had their fair share of structures and literature, but I will give you that.
"very powerful army"-- Large maybe, but they were unloyal (and even hired mercenaries at some point), not very well trained, and scattered. They were far from "powerful".

> Almost every large Empire had slavery, and while Rome in this case was a Republic they still had elements of an Empire. But really, just about every empire in history has used slaves, not just Rome
"most cultural"-- Is that why they changed religions based almost purely off a political decision?
> Yeah, well if you consider the amount of education, art, and literature they produced, you would ignore that.
"built some of the most astounding structures of all time"-- Persia had their fair share of structures and literature, but I will give you that.
> Didn't say Persia didn't accomplish anything cool either but alright
"very powerful army"-- Large maybe, but they were unloyal (and even hired mercenaries at some point), not very well trained, and scattered. They were far from "powerful".
> Rome's soldiers were very loyal during the good eras, which was most of the time. Don't try saying they aren't well trained, because the Legions were probably THE most well-drilled army of all time. They also had great officers, and easily crushed Empires such as Carthage and conquered most of Europe. These so called "mercenaries" were auxiliaries who wished to fight for Rome without undergoing the training. The auxs did not make up most of the Roman Army. |

the auxiliaries weren't mercenaries in the time leading to the downfall of rome rome hired mercenaries to patrol their borders because the population was declining and there weren't enough soldiers. bam |

Okay okay okay.
So Rome was cool, except for the slavery thing, which Persia avoided (like the hipsters they were). I would also like to point out that a civilization is only as good as it's weakest eras, which Rome could not handle well, and had much disloyalty among soldiers, civilians and politicians alike.
But Rome is now okay in my book, thank you.
But Huns were the BEST of the Classical Era, and that will not be changed. |
