I guess I can try to explain:
First, you would distribute, so multiply every thing in the ()s by -2, which would be -2w+14
So now you have -2w+14+10w = 34
Now you add the coefficients, -2w + 10w would be 8w
8w + 14 = 34
You have to get the variable alone, so undo the 14 by subtracting it from 34
8w = 20
Now just divide 20 by 8 and you have W
