| Press keys as fast and accurate as possible. Sadly, trombone and typing have nothing in common. :( |

First of all, I do not play the piano or any other musical instrument; I prefer silence to any form of music.
Playing the piano may slightly correlate to typing speed, however the correlation will be nowhere near as great as actual typing practice (code in particular, as it forbids any mistakes). For this belief, I have three primary reasons: firstly, music is subjective; often, there is no "wrong" key to press. Secondly, a piano's keyboard is significantly different from a typical "qwerty" computer keyboard. Finally, music greatly stresses rhythm, which though helpful, is not integral to typing.

Really, coding is no different than simply writing... You are going to make silly mistakes and you are going to correct them if you care about how you appear at all.
I play the piano, and I honestly do not believe it has anything at all to do with my typing speed. At least I have not seen any speed increases during the years of piano improvement.
Typing speed relates basically to memorized patterns really. Some words you can type far faster than others because you memorized how to effectively type with speed. Accuracy improves on practicing further. |

| But, could you not say that you can play certain things, say a scale, faster since you have memorized how to effectively play it? |

If you type for many years, you'll be surprised that you can type without looking at the keyboard. I myself am somewhat shocked that I can type these sentences without looking at my keyboard.
Whoa. |

I don't think there's really any correlation to typing speed and piano skill. Though there may be a difference between someone skilled with the piano, but has never used a keyboard before and someone who has done neither since they may have better control of their fingers.
My middle finger betrays me while typing , it locks up when i reach for 'i' so it generally remain straight while typing. I'm sure I'd have similiar problems if I'd play they piano.... Double jointed fingers are evil and currently hinder my pen spinning. :c

Piano keys are harder to press and there is more then one line of "letters" or keys on a keyboard.
so I guess its as hard, but honestly, when I play the piano, I expect music to come out, when I use my keyboard, I expect text and the casual troll message to pop up everyonce in a while. |

There is little to no correlation between piano skills/keyboard skill to typing skills. To relate one to each other would honestly be somewhat ignorant as to the differences between the two. One of the major differences is, is that typing is something anyone can do as long as they know how to read and write. Most only need to understand how to read to be able to type. Whereas the Piano requires an ear, the ability to memorize either entire songs or fingerings for specific keys/chords, a sense of tempo (being able to keep time), accuracy (of course typing needs some accuracy as well), rhythm, and more. Don't get me wrong though, some of the similarities are comparable of course. The hand eye coordination, the thought it takes to be able to play/type out melodies/paragraphs, etc. Pressing keys, memorizing the certain values of letters/notes to each key and etc. But, at least in my perspective, there are not enough similarities to be able to relate the two together. |

I've been playing piano for 11 years now.
I'd have to say that their is a relationship between fast fingers and knowing exactly where to press down on the piano and keyboard, without pressing down on keys (On piano and keyboard) around them.
I can't really say that piano playing has effected my typing directly because I played piano before I got into computer stuff. |
