There is a wire, when electrical current passes through it, it causes it to heat, The wire or the filament gets so hot that it glows and "gives off light". Filaments are mostly made of tungsten, Hot tungsten would quickly blow away if exposed to oxygen, You have to place it on a sealed glass bulb which is evacuated with a gas that won't let it burn. |
