---LONG POST, PLEASE TAKE THE FIVE-TEN MINUTES TO READ---
Recently, and when I say "recently", I mean the past... maybe three years... ROBLOX administration has fallen embarrassingly out of touch with its community. I appreciate things like Studio updates, group stores, and the fantastic dynamic lighting, but on the inverse, we have encountered some very negative changes. One of the biggest is the quite apparent floor price raise.
It's a bogus ploy. They're systematically forcing all the F2Ps out, (a class of ROBOXians that helps ROBLOX generate PLENTY of ad revenue, mind you. They need to exist.) If this is the plan, ROBLOX should just cut the deceit and make it a pay-to-play only game.
I've been making and selling clothes since 2010, and in relatively high quantities. We are a HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY neglected class of ROBLOXians. Contests, awards, prizes, hats, all have been given out to builders, scripters, forumers, and even voters... These groups do not even have to subscribe to BC to practice, while WE do. What do we get? A huge freedom for other users to copy our clothing without action, raised market fee, and especially, raised floor price.
Let's look at the Blog, as posted on the 24th. Why have they raised the floor price to such a seemingly LUDICROUS degree?
1) Raise the quality of items in the catalog. 2) Reward makers and sellers of clothing. 3) To incentivize (not a word, mind you) non-paying users to buy ROBUX.
Let's break them down.
1) "Raising quality" of catalog items.
ROBLOX USED to be about exhibiting creativity and accessibility. Originally, hats on their lonesome WERE these "elite" items, something to separate the "rich and English" from the "poor and Irish." In order to perpetuate more BC and currency purchase, additional class separation was engendered with the quite pricey "Limiteds", and even the "timed-runs." Cosmetics have no effect on the game, so this is relatively understandable. Then came "gear", the essential "pay to win" item. Early gear was fine, I've collected a boat load of it myself. Fun social items and weapons that added some variety to the game, and at least users have the option to toggle gear on and off at their places. As time progressed, the real "end game" gear came... Invincibility, magical hellfire, dragon minions, things practically impossible to counter with lower tier gear.
You'd think with the ABUNDANCE of exclusive cosmetics AND end-game weapons would be enough to give those who purchase BC and currency extra features. Now they're coming for your clothes. Besides a few trashy hats, these are the ONLY means of character customization, a DRIVING FEATURE of keeping ROBLOX unique and alive. It's bad enough for the free-to-plays that they can't even make their own clothing. They have already had to settle for what's out there, but now they CAN'T afford ANYTHING.
2) Reward makers and sellers of clothing.
NO. JUST NO. THIS ONE, THIS ONE MAKES ME THE MOST ANGRY. ROBLOX has proven TIME AND TIME AGAIN that THEY ARE NOT IN TOUCH WITH CLOTHING MAKERS, NO DO THEY CARE ABOUT THEM. There's PLENTY of clothing copying that we report time and time again. Dumb little kids learning that they can profit off other people's hard work. But WAIT. ROBLOX is educational! There's the glorious MARKET FEE. "Let's teach kids about the economy, by placing ludicrous market fee percentage (that goes nowhere!) on goods bought with non exisitant virtual currency!" Let me tell you something, ROBLOX. If your intention is to be didactic in this manner, you're NEVER going to find a functioning market with 30% tax on a good. It was a conceited effort to get clothing makers to CHARGE MORE, get COMPENSATED LESS, and get both clothing makers and users to BUY MORE CURRENCY. Now, we will, I guarantee you, we will make LITTLE TO NO MONEY, if NO ONE is going to buy clothes for these OUTRAGEOUS base prices. I'm sure people are not going to pay $5 to get one outfit they want. If anything, this will perpetuate MORE CLOTHING COPYING, screwing over us clothing makers YET AGAIN.
3) To encourage players to buy ROBUX.
Hey, they're not lying to us this time. Making users pay incredible amounts of real-world money (especially for non-BC, if you want to not be royally ripped off on currency purchase, you need to buy BC in ADDITION to currency purchase) just to solicit a small feature in the game. Let's use an example.
If the price of socks were raised to $300 in the real world economy, would people buy socks for $300? No, they would stop buying socks, at least the high 90% range of consumers.
Even if you get that chump who pays $300 for socks one in a blue moon, you will not offset the cost of people buying socks all the time for normal price. Basic micro-economic theory.
To close, let's add a few more points...
- Organized clans will lose ability to thrive and function. Causing disinterest and potential quitting of the game on a large scale. I run a club, and I distribute apprentice jackets to new members, and member jackets if they earn them later on. This will not happen anymore, considering most of my club is NBC. Think of something like this for FEAR, or RAT (are those clans around anymore?) Think of the MASSIVE scale they need to distribute these uniforms on, which they can't anymore. Large clans that require that literal uniformity collapse. And BAM. One of the game's BIGGEST FEATURES is drastically reduced in traffic. People quitting and leaving applies to the game in general.
- The ROBUX/Tix ratio is getting more, and more unbalanced. Market trade values one ROBUCK at around 20 Tix. According to this math, the conversion factor should be 25 ROBUX, 500 TIX. There's no consistency, they are contributing to their markets destruction with these features.
- It messes with the game's reputation. The "build, create, explore" exigence of 2007 to probably around early 2010 was what defined and dignified the game, as well added interest to it. The "pay to play, with all the hidden fees beyond BC" ideal will attach another stigma to the site.
It's clear the users are discontent for the most part, and are having NONE of these floor prices. ROBLOX, admins, if you are to take ANYTHING into account, look back at my socks example. You are LOSING money. You are NOT going to perpetuate BC or currency purchase for a commodity that we can so easily play without. You are DESTROYING your economy, and your game, which used to be a lot more about fun than it is today... |

Clans. Big part of my ROBLOX career. I have been an HR in over 70 of them. Just today, a little guy ran up to me and asked why the uniforms were so expensive, since he can't afford virtually anything anymore. I explained, and he got all sad that he wouldn't be able to participate in trainings without a uniform.
Our clan made an exception stating non-uniformed trainings could be held, but it was sad, nonetheless.
I am a pretty high rank in FEAR, and we get hundreds of newcomers a day, and with our uniform distribution system on lock, this is causing a lot of commotion. Not only here, in all groups.
I cannot believe a single update would ruin ROBLOX so much. I never expected this to happen.

I didn't read your post, Zremmy. I just know I <3 you and agree with you so I'm going to paste my current rant about all of this.
The purpose of ROBLOX is to be whatever we want, not to be the "best." Without the ability to buy the clothes we want (or in my case, sell them cheaply), we lose our ability to meet our dreams and goals. One of my best selling shirts is a firefighter and more than 75% of the buyers (thousands of players) are non-BC members. Thousands more would have bought that shirt a year or two from now so that they could be a firefighter and live a dream in a safe world. Now, with their price restrictions, they can't do that easily. They're no longer a firefighter to ROBLOX, they're just another $5.95. Shame is all ROBLOX may now behold. |

| Most decent clothiers make clothes because they like making clothes and like people wearing them, not because they want the next 10k hat. I sold most of my shirts for 1-5 tickets and 1-5 robux. and was happy making a few hundred tickets a day, but, it's more upsetting now that It's more of a "Look but don't touch" policy. |

| My group United States Military (X101st's Not the Copys) Has been reduced to use our uniforms from even two years ago. Or wear whatever we can, Already many USM have retired due to the Base price, I'm a F2P but only because, I'm poor and can't afford BC (Lol) Besides ROTC Raiders and my Enlistment in the Marine Corps, So what if I'm a little old for this, I enjoy it and it takes stress away, Because yes, I do have a stressful life. I balance a lot and have had to deal with a lot. Roblox is my escape from reality, and If I can't even enjoy this, Then what can I enjoy? They need to be more fair between BC's and F2P's. Not if you pay then you get all these privileges. Yes I understand if you pay you get a few more things, But not a unfair amount. |
