| If it weren't for key changes, marches would actually be pretty boring. The trio of any march is generally my favorite part, and they almost always change key signature, it adds variety and makes it more interesting. |

Key changes don't add substance to a song though. It's literally the same thing just played in a different tone.

"unless they play something different"
That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about literally playing the same exact part. |

key change (and time signature change) occurs around 1:10 and completely changes the mood of the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAQ7HY_QQI8
About 1:13 and somewhere between 2:14 and 2:45, once again, completely changes the mood.
If you want more examples, look up pretty much any march. If you can't find a good use of a key change anywhere, you are looking at the wrong music.

loljohnsusa
I'm not talking about that at all.
I'm talking about when literally the same statements/phrases are played except they're in different keys.
Those examples you gave me almost sounded like a medley, while the songs I listed above do not. |

@xspm, well if you're talking about playing the same melody just in a different key, then that could be pointless in some music. it could add a little something to some songs, tho, it depends.
But sometimes key changes, when the whole song changes , can be cool-sounding. |

are you absolutely stupid, OP? sure, why not have everyone just play the same note repeatedly in one song, while we're at it?

Where the hell did you get that assumption from?
I'm talking about when one melody is played in two different keys within the same song. |
