(This is a concept, not an actual game yet. If it gets positive feedback, I'll see if I can make it)
PLOT: Fifty years ago, a mysterious alien threat known as The Infinite Legion attacked Earth. They destroyed society and forced the splintered remains of humanity into small, underground strongholds. Humanity teetered on the edge of extinction until just ten years ago, when a rag tag group of fighters finally expunged the aliens from Earth, forcing them to abandon the planet.
Now, humans finally have the opportunity to rebuild their society, but they are organized into separate factions, each vying for control of the newly reborn Earth.
GAMEPLAY: This is an open-world survival game, similar to Apocalypse Rising, however, it has RPG elements, such as civilized cities and a leveling system.
The way civilized cities are going to work is that the place has PVP disabled, so you don't have to worry about getting killed. It also has shops where you can buy generic weapons and supplies.
As for the survival game aspect, there are three basic stats you must keep up: Food, Drink, and Sleep, which are self-explanatory. There will also be city ruins where useful items spawn and crashed Infinite Legion spaceships where you can collect special items not available in game stores. The Infinite Legion themselves will be mentioned but will never actually appear.
The factions will act sort of like tycoons, in the sense you can claim an empty zone for a certain amount of money where you will build up your faction's capital. A maximum of six factions can exist, which will force players to actually join a faction rather than make their own. Each faction has a leader, and if the leader doesn't pass leadership to someone else before they leave the game, the faction will be automatically disbanded.
This is all I have come up with for now, but if the idea gets positive reception, I will elaborate.

| Blorbs is better than something that sounds like on of those stupid groups that have popped up everywhere, emerging now and then to spam some forum before fading away for a while... |

Why are you even ranting about something that barely appears in the game?

Fine, I'll think of a different name if you think it will ruin the game...
But what do you think of the concept itself?

If you can figure out a reason why super powerful aliens were defeated by humans with probably inferior technology, then the rest of it sounds quite ok. Maybe you could make it a VIP that lets you make a faction.
It also sounds a bit like HL (Its Gordon Freeman! We can now totally go and beat up a bunch of super-powerful aliens who took over the world a few years ago!) |

| If aliens had such superior technology that they could travel to Earth, than humans already stand no chance, as they're much more superior. |

| Unless there is a reason. I guess an argument could be that they were already weakened from an earlier attack, or there was some flaw in their technology that allowed us, with some luck, to destroy their entire force (or most of it) |

Now how would the sleep mechanic work?
Will it be tedious and boring? |

@KirbyKid
Sleeping will last no longer than 10 seconds

What benefit will it give the game?
Is it just a waste of time? |

| I think that there should be a health loss for sleeping in most areas, but death if you do not sleep. This gives it a purpose... |

Not drinking results in death in about 3 days. Not sleeping results in death in about 11. Not eating results in death in about 3 months.
Not breathing results in death in a matter of minutes.
I don't think any of those slowly drain health. |

| People don't HAVE health. Health is just a concept added to games to give people numbers to look at and allow for simpler game creation. Its like dying in Halo by being punched then shot in the foot. |

| What I'm pointing out is that the survival aspect is pointless if you're trying to simulate realism. |

EVERYTHING is pointless if you're trying to simulate realism.
If you want realism, go outside. |

If aliens had such superior technology that they could travel to Earth, than humans already stand no chance, as they're much more superior. -------------------------- Not necessary. They could have put forth their efforts on developing rocketry and not much of anything else. Plus Tsar Bomba. |

| I was thinking more along the lines of detonating a nuke in the upper atmosphere, and the resulting EMP disabling all alien technology which would allow us to destroy them with our remaining conventional (non-electronic) technology. |
