There's a low amount of farmers there because they are not willing to pick out the crops one by one. They lazily use machines instead.

Shows how lazy and uncultured American farmers are. The best crops to eat are most definitely the ones tended and harvested by human labour.

So it's lazy to innovate and use your mind to make life easier and enjoyable?

unlike you we aren't starving to death over here
i'd rather have machinery doing more of the work then starving and having people doing all of it

I'm pretty sure the farmers using the machines didn't actually invent the machines. And yes, making your life 'easier' is lazy.

hunter and garthers settled down and started to farm
they only had to have part of their population work on the farms while the others could do other tasks such as advancing their technology

machines make even less of the population need to farm

hi, just want to give my two cents here.

There is no way one municipality can be the best at farming. Economic, social, and geographical factors ensure this. The United States has high crop yields because of its location, climate, and HDI level. However, based on units of arable land, we have a low agricultural density. That means the USA is highly specialized and globalized; we can import enough to grow what is necessary (aka milkshed/meat products) and nothing more. This means that the efforts of our farmers can be honed and focused to produce great yields. Our physiological density is also fairly low, as opposed to many LDC's or places like Canada with high populations (Quebec, BC, etc.) and little arable land. With the density of civilization and the development of incredible agricultural technology (including genetic modification [I'm looking at you, Monsanto]), we can label ourselves the "best."

What of the less-developed countries with oxen and iron plows? What of Papua New Guinea? What of the Mediterranean or equatorial regions and slash-and-burn or nomadic farmers/herders? Does this make them lesser than the United States in agricultural skill? No. They've done what they can with what they've been given.

not in my grandma's house
grandma doesn't run out of food
her basement is 20th century doomsday preppers
seriously shelves of things like cake mix, corn, beans, a giant freezer filled with pizzas, corn dogs, and all kinds of meats, a kitchen with every cooking utensil you can name, garbage cans filled to the lids with flour and sugar, baskets of seasonings, bushels of potatoes, and they even have 22 quartz of pears canned up

kid, are you even employed or have you ever been employed

also, suggesting that people shouldn't use tools for their advantage because it would mean they are lazy is stupid, seriously, go back to seventh grade.

@civilization

picking them one by one isn't a problem if it's a backyard garden like a dad, mom, or maybe grandpa/grandma would have
after the invention of the McCormick reaper though larger farms became practical and farmers began to rely on things like that to speed up harvesting, which is fine with me
I mean, I can't complain, these are the men and women putting food on my table
well, not FOR me but for stores and through the stores, for me
