I think to be one of the mos unique manga/anime ever, alongside Fist of the North Star.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one on this sub-forum to read/watch it but if I am then I highly suggest you check it out. When you start reading it then it may seem too cliche but that's only because at the time (1987) it was one of the few series that created those cliches you see in most anime/manga.
Considering a lot of anime watchers I see post here are typical Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Attack on Titan, and the anime people mostly seen already I don't think anyone has heard of JoJo before unless you saw the Wryyy meme or played the PS1 game. So I'll give a summary of it, there's also a anime adaption for parts 1, 2 and 3. Parts 1 + 2 were recently made into a anime (2012) and are really great and faithful to the manga (Right down to animating the sound effects). The Part 3 anime isn't really that good but its worth checking out (its more serious compared to the manga which is more humorous but the fights in the anime are top notch)
Summary: Its about a family called the Joestars and their bizarre adventure fighting enemies along the way against the Brando family for almost a century. Dio Brando is only the main villain for parts 1 and 3 but he made an impact throughout the series that certain things wouldn't have happened if it weren't for him (Part 2: stone masks, Part 4: stand arrow, Part 5: Dio's son, Part 6: Faithful companion, resets universe) There are 8 parts so far made with maybe 1 or 2 more left that the author has, 7 and 8 take place in the same universe created from Dio's companion who did some wacky universal reset.
Part summary: Part 1 Phantom Blood: About Jonathan Joestar and his relationship with his adoptive brother Dio Brando, Dio discovers the power of the stone mask and turns into a vampire and Jonathan has to stop him.
Part 2 Battle Tendency: Jonathan's grandson, Joseph Joestar, is sent to Italy to fight alongside Ceaser Zepelli to fight the stone masks creator, the pillar men.
Part 3 Stardust Crusaders: Joseph's grandson, Jotaro Kujo, finds out he has a demon spirit (known as a Stand) and Joseph travels to Japan to take him from jail with his friend Avdol to help save Joseph's daughter, Holly, whose stand was awakened but she can't control it and the only way to save her from dying is to defeat DIO, who had a head transplant and put his head on Jonathan Joestar's body.
Part 4 Diamond is Unbreakable: Joseph sometime around Part 3 met a Japanese woman while in Japan and had a child with her and this JoJo is, Josuke Higashikata, and he makes friends a long the way to find out there's a murderer on the loose and him and his friends have to try to find him and stop him.
Part 5 Golden Wind: DIO sometime met a woman and had a son, Giorno Giovanna, and true that DIO made him, technically he was made with the body of Jonathan so Giorno has some traits from both people, anyway Giorno's dream is to join a gang and he does and he and his gang has a mission to deliver the boss's daughter to him with her unharmed.
Part 6 Stone Ocean: Jotaro from Part 3 had a daughter named Jolyne Kujo and she's in prison and the main villain takes her father's soul away with his stand and Jolyne tries to get the disc with her father's soul in it back to try to revive him before his body decomposes
Part 7 Steel Ball Run: new universe due to part 6 and what I told you about the universe. Originally this wasn't supposed to be part of JoJo but the author decided to make it later on. Gyro Zepelli enters the Steel Ball Run race to win the prize money but later teams up with Johnny Joestar.
Part 8 JoJolion: A woman finds someone buried underneath dirt and he completely forgot EVERYTHING, even his name, so the girl takes her into her family and the guy is later named Josuke Higashikata and he later finds out that the ground has a special ability to mix things and Josuke here finds out there were two people under the dirt that got mixed up and he tries to find out who he really is.
Uhh, hope that isn't an over kill but this is really good and I hope you can get into it. If you think its too "g-word" looking then trust me, I thought so too but as you read/watch it you completely forget about it. This series is still going since its been created (1987) and I believe its one of the top 3 (?) most longest running series ever, but don't let that overwhelm you from reading/watching it, you can start at any part and not be confused but later parts will reference early parts so you may want to start with Part 1, or Part 5 since that doesn't really have anything related to any part besides Giorno being DIO's son.
WELP there's that. Hope you enjoy. |
