This is my post from IronNoob. Posting it here.
Option A – “Real Time Face-to-Face Trading” Option B – “Bulletin Board Trading Post” Option C – “Send Specific Offers Through Private Messages” Option D – “Real Time Auction House Best Offer”
I was writing an epic, alas time is of the essence. My main point, is that we shouldn't limit ourselves to one of the options. Similar to what was done with the trade currency, we should give multiple trade options. So, take the best ideas, and allow users to chose through which method they wish to trade.
So, allow direct face to face real time trading, possibly as an extension of the personal message system with the addition of a "Request Trade" button. (Which turns out to be a combination of both options A and C). Both users offer items, both accept each others trade, or barter through personal message. Once they both accept, the trade is executed.
Then, take option B and simplify it. Separate it into categories based on the rarity of items. ie one category for 15,000+ owners, one for 10,000-15,000 owners, one category for 5,000 -10,000 owners, and one category for under 5,000 owners. (I assume your database would have this information) Players entering the trading bored are prompted to enter the hat they wish to trade away, and the hat or hats they wish to receive. All hats must be part of the same category based on rarity/ownership of the hat. If they want to trade away a hat with 100,000 owners for a hat with 5,000 owners, they will be told to revise their selections. This keeps the trades sort of fair and kinda prevents the dumping and scamming of items. When the selections are done, the user is automatically directed to the board correlating to the items (based on # of owners) they will be trading. They can write a message, list their trade, and then wait. When somebody offers a trade, they get a personal message directing them back to the board. The user offering to trade can barter with the user on the board, or offer to take the trade as is. Once both have accepted, the trade goes through.
Then, go with the real time auction house idea on a separate page, but not in the way you are thinking. Don't make this item for item, make this option item for cash. This gives users more choices. They can trade item to item with others either in private or on public board, or trade hat for cash in auction. Don't make everybody sit in the same auction room, break it up into groups of 50-100. Before they enter the auction they must select what they want to trade away, and the starting price of their auction. They are then sent into the auction house and a moderated chat room (Yeah that could be tough.... Hire me? :P j/k) to begin. As you mentioned, only one can be up for auction at a time, however with the smaller auction rooms, the wait will be less, making it less boring waiting. While the user is waiting for their chances, they can bid on items. When the users turn comes, the bidding can begin at the predetermined base.
My suggestion is that the auction house only be used to sell limited items. This way, if nobody wants to bid on an item, the user can either choose to sell the item to Roblox, or keep it. If the items are not limited, Roblox won't know how much to offer for the items. If Roblox just buys it at the predetermined base, users will just start going into auctions with a base of 1,000,000 robux, not get any bids, and then sell it to roblox for the insane price. If the items are all limited, and there are no bids, Roblox can offer the user the recent average sale price of the limited. That keeps it fair. I honestly like this idea, I think it would be fun.
So, in conclusion, don't limit yourself with one option. The more options the better here, I feel.
tl;dr? I don't care. |

| Sadly, ROBLOX is too worried about all the other "needed" updates for the game. In my opinion, I have had enough with the GUIs and crap. |

| But yes, it will probably be another couple of months before it is on the live site. It will require a fair amount of testing. |

I like things from basically each of the ones so far.
The original choice would be a face-to-face thing, but..
In my view(Long rant)
I personally think you should send trade requests. Doesn't matter if your online or offline, once you get on you'll find it in your notifications and there will be items/money that the person has sent. A message spot will also be available to discuss this as if it we're a private message. If they needed easier access to contact each other they can just use the chat feature.
Anyway, later on the user would send what THEY would offer, and send it to the other player to check on, at this point, the person who has been sent the request can approve the trade or disapprove the trade, so can the other player.
If they agree, it's all cool. If one doesn't they can send it back with either more items or request more items or whatever. Face-to-face would be difficult to use, so I feel while I like everything about it, I think it being the one where you need to be online is a bad choice.
Also, auction would be terrible. I also think to extend the trading system, there should be it's own catalog so you can search for items/money people are offering and there will be a little description area where it might say 'SELLING DOMINO CROWN FOR DUSEKKAR + 10,000 ROBUX'
Whatever floats the boat really. |
