I am having trouble with this one math question. Basicly I need to find out how many possible combinations this question could have.
"You are given 10 bricks. Each brick is 1 meter by 2 meters. You must build a wall that is 2 meters high and 10 meters wide. You may orient each brick vertically or horizontally." ( For horizontal bricks , 2 must be stacked on top of each other because you must use all 10 bricks and the wall must end up being a perfect rectangle.)
So could anyone help me solve this problem? Thanks

@Roger
I'm not sure how I would go about trying to solve this problem other then writing out every possible combination which would take forever.

@Roger
We just stated the year and we are just reviewing stuff. But my grade 8 teacher failed to teach half the stuff that we are "reviewing"

but honestly "You are given 10 bricks. Each brick is 1 meter by 2 meters. You must build a wall that is 2 meters high and 10 meters wide. You may orient each brick vertically or horizontally." ( For horizontal bricks , 2 must be stacked on top of each other because you must use all 10 bricks and the wall must end up being a perfect rectangle.) I believe that it is this: You are given 10 bricks. You have 10 bricks to use to build a wall 2 meters high and 10 meters wide. Ok. Each brick is 1 meter tall, 2 meters wide. So, it can only be 2 meters high and 10 meters wide, no less, no more. 2 meters high i'm thinking you would use 5 bricks for height, but it says it can't be more than 2 meters... So, that would be 5 meters high and 10 meters wide... But that wouldn't work.. Hm. I'm not quite sure, i'm in algebra 2 and I don't even understand this. I'll try and figure it out. |

Well, I didn't even try it due to the fact that I don't know 8th grade math. If that didn't help you please PM me on this day: 9/8/2016.

| I'm an average 5th grader. I'm good at scripting, etc. etc. Just not advanced triganometry or whatever the cubed math is. Though I think that the person who tried to help was correct. It's kinda simple in a way, But It's advanced in many ways. I think it should be about 40% rotated to horizontal 2x1. And 60% rotated to vertical 2x1. I don't know the exact placement though. And I roughly understand what you're trying to do. |

If I did 10^10 then divided that by 5 would I get the correct answer or would I need to divide that answer by 4?

Bump. Please answer,
10^10=10,000,000,000 Divided by 5 = 2,000,000,000
or
10^10=10,000,000,000 Divided by 5 = 2,000,000,000 Divided by 4 = 500,000,000
Which is the correct answer?

Oh. I get this.
10^10/4. That would get you 500mil. Which you're trying to do because you want 10 hieght, and 2 length, So that would allow 500m/10+2^3 = 34mil. So that would lead you to 340mil used. So that would leave 160mil, So you divide that by 2, You get 80mil each.
160mil = 2 length. 340mil = 10 width.
So the length is 80mil, So length > width in this equasion but the total width > total length.
I still barely know how to do this, So I could be wrong. Infact the chances of me being wrong are quite high due to my age: [10.]. Around 0.56% chance of me even doing the problem correctly, So imagine the chances I got it right e.e. |
