the first step is to fix the homework problem
I think there are a lot of students who can empathize with me when I say that I get bad grades not because I don't understand the subject, but because I stop doing the homework
I already understand the subject, and doing the homework seems like such a bore and waste of time since I ace the tests and exams anyways but if you ever stop doing the homework, it brings down your grade the most
that's why I think that homework should be an option for B+-A/A+ students and a requirement for all below that level
not only will it be a motivation to get better grades, but the leading students in the class won't have to stress themselves out even more
and before anyone says anything, of course there are exceptions where exceptions must be given
if we're going to start anywhere I'd suggest here |

too much homework is completely stupid but its also stupid to have none- homework is used to reinforce topics discussed in class. keep in mind that not everyone is gifted in memory or learning things quick, and grades aren't a reflection of intelligence.
any good homework is challenging at the very least (in math). |

What my teachers do is try do something fun. Typical manipulation in learning at my school. They kind of treat us like children |

if not everyone is able to take in the subject during class then they will continue receiving homework as is needed
students will still have the option to receive homework if they think they need it, but if they genuinely don't they will have the choice not to do the work |

I like homework in all honesty, but my school gives me so much to the point I'm up at 3 am trying to finish a book report when school starts in 2 hours. Not only that, I'm stressed out to the point I can barely sleep. so yeah

| you need homework regardless of how much you think you don't. why do you think top tier colleges use it? |

| What they should do is teach you something, then test you on it over and over till you get it all right, then do same thing with different material. |

According to a few OT'ers it's not uncommon for AP students to skip sleep to get homework done honestly I support this to an extent since homework is used to reinforce the topics they learn I really do recommend even A+ students do it but all that "Study pages x-y" I never did because I didn't feel the need to |

My school is switching to a system where the only things that count towards your grade is tests
Never tell me the odds |

this is the point of homework, it keeps school from being even more of an all day affair. |

i think making school better would to get rid of the idea of communal schooling with one teacher and many students
but there aren't enough teachers
i see something like a personally tailored online course or computer program replacing communal schooling
it allows 1 teacher to be with 1 student and fit the education to the needs of that 1 student
not a classroom full of them |

some people can go without a night of stressing themselves out again, not all students would go the entire year without homework hopefully, none at all would
the student would just have the choice whether or not to do homework one night and they could possibly do homework the next night or the one after that
unless they were stupid, no student would go without at least one night of homework a week

@Skellor
I did something like that last year. There's this website called study island that I get assignments I have to do on it every now and again and they have a bunch of math and reading "practice quizzes." If you get 80% or higher on these quizzes you get a blue ribbon. Blue ribbons are basically a reward system you get for studying the material well enough to understand it. If you don't get a blue ribbon, your teacher would put you and other students who had trouble with it into an online class session and put you all in separate "rooms" and they would work with each of you on certain problems you had trouble with. Thing is though there's still only one teacher. |

the only reason why i dont do any of the homework in one of my classes is that the school is stupid and placed me into a class i already took in 8th grade year so im just not doing it to prove a point that i know the concept and material and im acing the tests and quizzes but noooo still put me in that god awful classs

I kind of have this theory that smarter states have harder AKS for students 1 grade in a smarter state would have a different and HARDER AKS to do (in a kid that came from a dumber state perspective) than the dumber state with that same grade. so basically if you moved from Massachusetts to California you would have easier stuff to do in the same grade. -------------- Oh yeah 1 tip: Don't barge into gifted classes too early. They don't really uphold any importance in your knowledge in the US system of careers start at 8th Grade thats when school starts to really matter |
