The 49th Hunger Games. Fan Fiction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BOOM! Avery awakes to the sound of the cannon blast, signaling another death. Whats that.. the 19th? 20th? She can't think straight and the air feels thick and muggy. Grasping pale grey tendrils wrap themselves around her small, thin stature and into her long, golden brown curls, cradling her like her father used to. The soft green leaves covering her feel warm and comforting, reminding her of home, District 7. She takes a deep breath of the foggy gas and snuggles further into the leaves, her vision going blurry, pulling her down, beckoning her into sleep. 'Only a few more minutes' she thinks, and closes her eyelids, the scent of the oak leaves and smokey mist wafting into her nose. Just like the bon-fire in the forrest closest to home on Christmas, the only time she got to spend with her whole family. Her life was actually pretty good compared to some, being the mayors daughter, until she ended up here, her worst nightmare. The Hunger Games was a feared event throughout most districts, but others think of it as an opportunity to show off and bring pride to their District. 'Its a monstrosity, child abuse, you have to be sick in the head to think its ok.' But then again, in the short time she was in the Capitol she realized that the population there are. 'They are all sick, they aren't normal, they don't even have normal feelings. They cheer for their favourites, bet on the winner, then revel in the glory of the victor. Completely sick.' 'I don't see why they are able to keep control over us, its just no--' Avery's train of thought is thrown away as a strong hand slides under her head, another under her knees. She panics and tries to wrestle away from her captor, but she is weak, must have been the fog, and can barely move in his strong arms. She groans and in reply hears a cough just above her, and the masculin chest her head lies against shakes. "Avery, it's me Finn. Don't move, i'll take you down to the river where there's not as much smoke. Then ill come back for your supplies." She vaguely remembers the boy Finn from the Capitol. He was from District 4, strong, striking dark hair, about 15 years of age, had a good score, 10, and had a huge, warm smile. They trained at the Knives Station together, which Avery wasn't too bad at, knives aren't too different from axes, and she helped him with his aim. They ate together and tried a few more stations, all in which he pretty much showed her up at. Her District partner, David, pretty much ignored her as soon as they arrived, he was 18, his last year eligible. And didn't want to associate with the tiny little 14yr old girl, daughter of the Mayor. Not many people from 7 liked her, she only had one friend, because she didn't have to get tesserae, and had a better life than the rest of the district with her fathers higher rank. But David had just been terrible, he had struck her in the face several times and had whatever he wanted in the Capitol. Avery hated him. She had hoped he had been killed every single day of this nightmare and somewhere deep inside had been disappointed when he never showed up in the sky at night. She swore quietly to herself, that if she was going to die in this hole, then he would too.
Finn's arms gently placed her on the ground and splashed her with a bit of the river water, cleaning the deep cut along her arm she had received from the D2 Girl Tayson. Avery had stabbed her in the head with the medium sized knife she had got at the bloodbath, her first kill. Later she had set a snare that she had learnt in training, hoping to catch an animal but the small D5 Boy got caught instead. She killed him too. After a drink and regaining her senses, Avery wadded into the clear water and floated while waiting for Finn to return. Finn. Should she trust him? Why had he not just killed her? But then she remembered that look in his eyes when he washed her cut and she winced. He had hurt her and felt terrible. At lunch with him he had just stared at her, memorizing her details, taking it all in. He liked her. How could she be so stupid! Then a thought popped into her head. 'She could use this. He could protect me.' She felt the guilt rush up inside of her, 'This is the Hunger Games! It's not time for mushy feelings! You do whatever you can to stay alive!' An image of her mother, her father, and younger brother Jace, swam around in her head. 'There are more important things than a boy.' She thought.
It all happened very fast. Avery heard voices, then a cry, as a mass of rushing footsteps crunched over dead leaves, maybe 3 people? She swam to the other side of the river, away from the noises and crouched behind a mass of rocks, lucky she was small. Then Avery saw the source of the noises. First came Finn, bursting out of the bushes, her Knife in his hand, followed by an older girl maybe from D1, with an axe, then came a bloodied David, her District Partner. Avery remembered seeing the axe the girl was holding at the bloodbath. She was a fast runner but it was on the other side of the Cornucopia and her chances were slim of getting to it first. Being from 7 she was handy with axes, and it had been helpful, her skills giving her a score of 8. Not too bad she thought. David was bigger than Finn but wasn't very skilled with weapons as he was raised as a Healers son. He had to follow in her footsteps, which was rare because he was able enough to work in the forests. But he was strong, and good in hand to hand combat. Finn turned around and stopped running, believing his chances with the knife were better than running. He took a swipe at the girl, she ducked, him only skimming her arm then falling to the ground. David backed away. Little wuss. The girl recovered and held the axe above her head, starting to bring it down, when Finn rolled to then side, jumped up and stabbed her in her side. She screamed and brought the axe down on his leg, not very hard because of the distraction, then collapsed in pain. He took his opportunity and got her right in the head, killing her instantly. BOOM. Blood was everywhere. He screamed once he saw his leg, mangled and bloodied, His face drained of colour. He managed to tear his eyes away from it to search around the rocks. "Avery!! Where AHHHHH- are you!!" "AHHH" Avery felt terrible, she knew where David was and didn't want to risk her own life. She was torn between staying and being safe or putting her life in danger to go and help him. Thats when she saw him. David had come out from his hiding spot with a long curved knife which she didn't see the first time. He was silent, and Finn hadn't heard him. "Avery, AHHH- Come help me i'm hurt!!"said Finn. Every second David inched toward Finn glistening knife in hand. Avery didn't have anything on her except the small pocket knife in her shoe. She couldn't take him on. She heard the tiniest little noise behind her and risked a look. A parachute!! She hadn't had one the whole games and was surprised that so close to the end, she was given one now. The end. There was only 3 people left. Herself, Finn and David. She quietly scurried over to the Parcel, to find out what it contained. It was big, and Avery was amazed that none of them had noticed it drop. She clicked the lid and pulled out a Bow and one Arrow. One Arrow!! One shot. She had one chance to get David. She knew it was him she would strike. She had had little training with the Bow and Arrow but it was better than nothing. She slid back to her previous position to find David over top of Finn, Knife at the ready. He was kneeling on Finn's arms and grinning his snake like grin then lent over and whispered something in Finn's ear. Finn's face went whiter and he looked like he was about to faint. The knife went up above David's head and before she knew it, Avery was up, "NOOOO Finn!!" she screamed. "Look who's here!" David cried, "Little Baby come to save fishboy? Well it's too late!!" The Knife came down and in one fluid movement Avery put the arrow in the bow, pulled back and sent the arrow flying. She saw the pain on Finns face, David's grin, the blood on the rocks, everything in detail, like a picture she had seen a million times. Then the arrow and the knife hit home at seemingly the same time as both bodies slumped in a heap. "FINNNN!!!!" Cried Avery. "No no no no Please no." BOOM. It was David. Avery rushed over to Finn and pushed David off of him. "Finn, no no no, it will be ok, please dont die on me, Finn please." "A-avery" Finns eyes fluttered open. "You did good, you did your best. You won Avery." "NO I haven't won yet!!" She protested. "Finn, NO!!" His eyes met hers and she grabbed his hand. "You did good.." He whispered as his body went limp and his eyes glassy. BOOM. |

Thanks for your input guys, this will really help me with my writing. This was my first Hunger Games fan fiction which I only wrote in two hours after Sports Training. So it was a bit rushed :) I didn't really do any research on those little things @WiFi so im sorry if I disappointed you. ~Jum |

I hate it when people make excuses for their terrible writing.
Don't write if you don't have time. |

I could do better in 15 minutes.
If it takes you 2 hours to write something short and, no offense, mediocre - you need a lot of practice. |

Because you expect her to sit down for 10 hours (just an example) and write a fan-fiction that pleased here "haters" (and I use that lightly)?
I think its really good. |
